    e21 for 500 bucks.

so i may be purchasing an e21 320i for 500 bucks, i was at the shop talking to them about my rebuild and what not, told them i was a little stuck. they then offered me a car parked out back for 500 bucks, it's a 5speed with a brand new clutch, runs strong, mileage unknown because i was in a hurry, year unknown i was in a hurry. only problem with it, it's hard to start cold. they said that they suspect it's because the fuel distributor is pretty bad.
looked into it an a fuel distributor is 380$

body is clean, its alpineweiss, paint is in good condition.

not sure what im getting myself into but im very tempted to pick this thing up for 500 bucks.

anyone know anything about the problem it has? having a hard time firing up.
    thanks R3vers.

Buy it, and I'll come fly down and buy it from you? I would love a "rust free" southern US shell.

    Edit;

The start poblem could be a couple things. Explain "hard to start".

"hard to start" as they put it.

when they would go to crank it over it would backfire a little bit, they said once it got warm it ran smoothly, but until then it had backfiring. they said it wasn't so hard of a start if you had driven it the previous day though.

So fuel related...could be the WUR, so on...Mine has a cold start hesitation..bleh kjet is the gay.

If you do buy the car there is a pretty decently sized E21 group in California that would be able to help you out. Definitely be able to find a used, working fuel dist.. for less than 380.

I have forgotten all the useful info on cold start problem causes...mine disappears after 2-3 mins so I'm ignoring it. But a search on the E21 section of bimmerforms will give you a good idea of what to check/fix/etc. You can find good condition used parts for wayyy less than new there too.

E21's are cool, but be aware they have major fucking short commings.

Cable speedo. 168mm diff (small case). Drum rear brakes. Sourcing parts for a swap are wayyyy harder than on an E30....ugh I could go on but no...

If you have any general questions I can probably answer them.

It's a really reliable system, just kinda funky.

Probably just injector o-rings or thermo-time switch/cold start injector issues.

yep, K-jet is whack, at least the fuel mixture is adjustable though.

how are you even thinking about this? if it's clean and it runs, buy it. you can flip it for a lot more than $500 if you fix the cold start issue.

if i could find a running 2002 for around the same price i'd definitely buy that instead.
