E21's are cool, but be aware they have major fucking short commings.

Cable speedo. 168mm diff (small case). Drum rear brakes. Sourcing parts for a swap are wayyyy harder than on an E30....ugh I could go on but no...

What other short comings? I saw a red e21 in the newest issue of Bimmer and I just nutted all over the place ,m30 swamped, 300hp+ oh god!!!! Want!!!!

one question, if you're so anti-e21 based on it's antiquated technology, why did you use a M20? the M20 is one very antiquated (some might even say gay) engine, even with L-jet and motronic.

As far as doing the M20 swap...it's not ideal, but it kind of "fell" into my lap. I think M20s have more character than the M5x engines as well.

I lucked into a free rusted out 323 last year, so I have all the factory bolt in parts you need for the swap, and some shiny Supersprint M20 headers. Then this summer I found a cheap 5spd E34 525 which had a "rebuilt" M20 in it...It just makes sense from a financial stand point to be going M20.

If the car lives long enough, I'm going to do a honda f20c swap, either E30 or side loader diff conversion, fender flares, wide tires, etc. But I don't see myself having disposable income like that for at least another year or two.

back on topic, i am going to the shop tomorrow to take a look, and a local e21 enthusiast from BF.c is going to join me, to help me get a better understanding of the cars issues, then i get paid on the 3rd and i will probably bring this puppy home.


i need some advice r3v,
the guys at the shop offered me a steal of a deal at $500, and my family has been doing business with them for many years, they know us well. do you think it would be rude for me to try to talk them down to $400 or so? i feel like it would but im not entirely sure.
