None of that waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles PG-13 AVP crap, this movie is supposed to be gory as fuck, and the icing on the cake?

At least 3 FPS scenes, one of them including the fucking CHAINSAW.
I'm torn on that - I like the Rock and the FPS stuff looks cool but the rest looks cheez-o-matic. Let us know.

Going to see "DOOM" tonight at midnight, I'll let you guys know how it goes.

The other big one I'm waiting for is "V for Vendetta". THAT movie is going to kick ass.

Doom kicked ass, it was awesome. Don't go see it expecting a huge plot or great acting. Take it for what it is, a gory, violent, special effects laden sci-fi thrill ride. The demons and monsters were awesome, and almost all the sound effects from the original games were there, even the sounds of the doors opening and closing. All the guns were there, including the chainsaw, and yes, the BGF 9000, which plays a big role in the movie. It was definitely one of the best video game movies yet, coming in second only to Resident Evil.

my roommate agrees w/ you, but i thought this flick knocked RE on its ass (as pure-action video-game conversions go).

[geek]before i went i downloaded a copy of original shareware doom and spent 2 hours beating it. nightmare level, no death, no save. still got my skills, but i'd better- in high school i spent more time playing this game and its variants (later episodes, rise of the triad, heretic) than i did on homework...[/geek]

                    chainsaw rhaar!

                    definitely worth theater admission price.

Not a chance. Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse are THE best video game adaptations to be done yet, IMHO. The third is already in production, with Milla on board once again, and with the same director. At the end of Apocalypse, Alice has gone full-bore over the edge, and it's going to be AWESOME to see what they do with her character in the next one. So far, they've been very true to the games, and I hope they keep going in that direction.

                              I saw it Saturday night.

It wasn't exactly what I expected, but regardless it was a great film. I thought it was very well done. Jake Gyllenhaul was even more awesome than I thought/hoped he would be.

I felt special when it was revealed in the film that the crazy, "squishy-faced retard" character was supposed to be from Framingham, MA. Great casting.

Like Rob feared, there's some political opinions expressed in the film, but nothing that takes away from its enjoyability. It's about the soldiers themselves, not so much the actual war. Based on the stories I hear from guys I know who are currently/were recently stationed overseas, the film was 100% accurate with how most soldiers deal with boredom and being away from home. It's annoying that most critics are shitting all over the film for not having "enough war" for a war-film. It showed what the majority of ground troops in the Gulf War saw. I'll leave it at that to not spoil anything.

Makes me want to read the book...
