I have the $599.99 50" 720P Panasonic plasma from Costco and couldn't be happier, comes with a 2 year warranty on it also.

If you don't need a flat panel though, I'll second the used DLP suggestion. They are dirt ass cheap on craigslist all the time, huge screen sizes available and 1080P. I saw a 65" with 1080P for like $150 or something right before I bought my TV and I seriously considered it. I went with the Plasma in the end because I was pretty set on wall mounting.

Plasma response time is generally WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY faster than LCD response time.

That 2ms LCD number they throw at you is almost never 2ms. Maybe 10x slower...

Maybe you got a crappy plasma?

Well believe that # I have already played on it and I am sold. But the plasma was from this spring. So whatever the top of the line Samsung plasmas are was what he got.

Perhaps you had one of those post-processing settings turned on in the plasma. Such as 120hz mode (frame interpolation), Dynamic Backlight, Dynamic Contrast, Dynamic Black, Dynamic White, Dynamic Color, or scaling the source image to match the native resolution of the display.

top of the line ≠ fastest. What you want is a good panel with minimal processing between your signal and your eyes.

SOOOO much reading lol, and it is so late already. I'll go over that in the morning =)

But I am NOT against any type of TV or function. I am ALLLLLLL about response time for gaming. So if there is something better I will buy that. But what about burn ins? For Halo 3 and most of every FPS game, there is a HUD that could burn in with the hours of playing I do. I don't game too much during the good months, but when winter hits I hide from the snow =)

Burn in isn't that big of a deal anymore. ANY type of display can have permanence issues, even LCDs - these days most fade back to normal after a bit.

I've seen my MPVA panel have an issue with image permanence once - it was a very hot week, and I powersaving and the screensaver disabled. The issue slowly resolved itself over the course of a week or so.

As for plasmas, they have a stigma from the early days (much as CRTs did) that burn in was a big problem. It was, once upon a time, but that has largely been resolved.
The best preventative medicine is most likely to display something with random patterns from time to time - like a screen saver.

As for response time of panels, plasma panels ARE faster than LCD panels. Input lag is an entirely different problem, which is largely influenced by image processing, as I previously mentioned.

Input lag would not fly with me, I believe that is what my brother was experiencing. I am buying a new setup Black Friday, so I have a bit of time to figure out what is best for my needs. No offence but plasma has not gotten to the point where it will survice my gaming needs. BUT they are hands down amazing for movies =) I do like my buddies black LED Samsung the best, it is SOOOOOOO clean. But that is WAY out of my budget with a m50 turbo build, Sled and new TV.
