    my red ix caught fire

    video will be posted later.

i really dont know what happened. looks like the fire started in near the drivers side front corner. so maybe the ddm tuning hids (which i had turned on a few minutes prior) overheated and ignited? not sure.

what really sucks is that i changed the coverage from full to liability 2 weeks ago. :???:

Clearly your car would rather commit suicide than be seen in a Walmart parking lot.

i wish i could be a dick and write "and nothing of value was lost"

but damn I love that color, and it's a 2 door IX :(

so is it all totaled and salvageable?

I had a VW catch on fire some years ago (stupid stupid unreliable hipster bullcrap automobiles) and ever since I have carried a fire extinguisher with me. When my VW caught on fire, it was the exhaust system, right around the plastic gas tank. I stood back and watched, kinda like your pic right there, with really no water or anything in sight. I just expected it to burn through the tank and that I would be on the 6:00 news. Luckily there were some immigrant workers a hundred feet off and I noticed they had a selection of thirst-quenching beverages. I didn't waste my time explaining the situation to them. I ran over to where they were working, stole all their drinks and ran away with them. They were enough to quench the flames and luckily none were Tequila. After my pulse returned to normal I went over and explained and gave them $20 to go buy some new drinks.

            Fire extinguisher.

            A great thing to have.

yeah, that firetruck was over within a minute. lol. i was actually going to 3 brothers (local italian joint) but i never made it.

it could be saved if you really wanted. but it would require replacing every wire and plastic item in the engine bay. if anyone wants to undertake this, i will sell it cheap if they promise to do so. otherwise, she's getting parted.

quite a sad day indeed. i am carrying a fire extinguisher from now on. lol.

Not as bad of a job as you would expect. I survived one of these instances myself and luckily my e30 lived to see another day.

I was lucky to have a neighborhood kid see the nightmare and show up with a fire extinguisher...which I now keep in my car always.

                    Good luck.

get back into an e30? this is 1 down of 2. i still have my lachs on oxblood ix.

very sad to see this one like this. box, yeah. i could definitely put this back together. it wouldnt even be that expensive (all the parts to do so are at the yard.) but it would take some time. time i could be spending building up my rx8 or my lachs ix.

Sucks bro, I dout its from the HID's. Remember your fuel lines run on the driver side. It could have been a small leak in the fuel hose , anything electric or hot would spark that.

i thought about that, but the epicenter of the damage is just so far forward. it's in front of the airbox.
