nope, that's just me. this kind of stuff doesnt phase me anymore.

ask anyone in the local e30 crew, i am definitely no stranger to vehicular mishaps. 2 weeks after i bought my rx8 someone swiped it in a parking lot and stuff like this has been a constant in my life ever since. parking lot dings, swipes, vandalism, slashed tires, a tree fell on my rx8 once, more swipes, etc. my rx8 has 13-14 claims on it, and it's due for another. lol.

dill, i was driving when this happened. i managed to push it into a parking spot while it was on fire.

lol @ "this hurt" for a little parking lot ding where someone backed into me. the fire hurt a lot more!

Hey man, that's actually not so bad.. I caught an A2 Montana Green VW GTI on fire once. I still love VW plastic fuel rails sitting over the headers to cause that one. Enough, about me.

That's totally fine. You're great parking job through me off guard. Pull it together and bring it back!! I've seen much, much worse...

Wow...I'd be bitching at the firemen to hurry up, just get an extinguisher on it within 10 seconds and it'd be good. Then I'd go over and just pop the hood instead of watching them rape it with a crowbar. You must be much older than I am.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

                      lol @ the hood sticker.

I'd say by where this is your fire was at a leaky/bad FPR. I doubt that any electrical issue having to do with the DDM's would have caused this. Even look at where the hood is burned...that's directly above your FRP. Although how exactly that causes a fire that doesn't follow your lines and blow the car skyhigh is beyond me.

No longer stock ride height, rolling as low as a daily driver in New England should without worrying about breaking an oil pan.

lol, it'll take me a few days to get a pic of the engine bay.

the engine bay is nothing but warped plastic goo. you're right that it's not so bad. i'd need a new foglight, fender, and hood body wise. but electronically? new engine harness, injectors, airbox, all the hoses, fan, who knows about the condition of the powersteering internal seals, front axle cv boots (which i just did), and then.. the relay AND fuse box.

as i said, if anyone wants to restore her. i'll sell it for less than i would in parts. and if you're local, i'll even help you. but this is not a job im prepared to do at this time. im in the dc/bmore area.

after the fpr was mentioned, it does seem very likely to me.

So are you really gonna part it? I don't think you should.
IMO from the looks of it this would be easier/cheaper to fix than even a minor collision.

You would have to replace a lot of parts in the bay and wiring but at least you don't have any frame damage and major body damage like you would with an accident - that's what really totals a car and makes even the shell worthless. Get a new hood, but it looks like the rest can be sanded down and painted.

                          ... 24v swap?

I guess this is why oil leaking from the back of the engine is problem.

Damn such a shame to see such a nice example be a victim. The rubber hose that goes from the filter to the fpr became very brittle on me and well all I could smell was fuel so I pulled over checked it out and it was squirting all over the place spent like $5 on two tubes and new hose clamps. Sorry for your loss man
