Do you and your boss get along?
Im in a similar situation. I work two jobs. One in retail in a store called Benny's. My boss hired his family friend about a year ago. Alittle older then me, but not nearly as mature as I am. But he gets all the hours because hes the family friend. Boss also has been treating me like shit recently. He changes my schedule around and doesnt tell me, and he doesnt write it down. Then he gets pissed when i made plans around working the schedule I thought i was working. I also work much harder then the kid he hired. And hes dumb as brick. The kid purposly broken shit knowing he'd get away with it. Hes narrowed me down to 12 hours a week. This kid gets 40, or whatever he wants. Im about to quit. Im not dealing with the bullshit. The guy can manage a hell of a good store, but he cant manage his staff for shit.
Good luck spencer.1985 325e M50TU(Sold)

Sounds like he is being unprofessional and immature about this. He clearly doesnt have the stones to just tell you straight up whats going on/if he is in fact firing you (which unfortunately is what seems is happening). Hopefully you will be able to find a new job somewhat quickly, but if he is as unprofessional as he seems, then in the long run you probably wouldn't want to stay there anyway. When the time does come, and he does in fact give you the Ax, just tell thank him for the work experience, knowledge, etc... And let him know that you really do not appreciate his unprofessional conduct, and that you would have much preferred him be straight forward with you sooner to afford you the opportunity to seek new employment sooner. Wish him the best, and part ways. There is absolutely no sense in burning bridges and telling him what you really think and to fuck off despite how badly you may want to. Granted to be between jobs in this economy will suck, it is still not worth it to run the risk of pissing him off, because people do hold grudges and you never know if you will be working for any of his associates in the future.
Best of luck.

Wow...can't believe your manager is still stringing you along. I'd just show up with my letter of resignation in hand, and save that waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles the trouble and the heart ache.
Trust me, if you write up a professional letter of resignation, and sign it effective immediately you can still use the work experience as a reference for your next employment. If you do it this way, legally all they can supply information wise to your next employer is (technically this is all they should regardless), Dates you were employed, your job description or employment capacity and your salary information.
If he hasn't come through with the email promised to you yesterday, its because HR has told him that its not appropriate to speak about your employment status until everything is finalized (termination paper work, final check). If he tells you that you are in the process of being terminated before he has his ducks in a row, it leaves you an open window for a possibility for wrongful termination (you'd be surprised at how often this happens, and in CA its a bitch for a company to win in a unemployment case) which is the last thing he, or HR or the company wants to deal with (cost, time, % of winning).
Just go in today (call ahead and ask another employee if he is in, but do not speak to him directly over the phone as he may just dodge you physically), be polite, hand in your letter of resignation professionally typed out and signed by you, thank him for the opportunity (It will be tough, just grit your teeth and smile) and wish him and the company all the best in their future endeavors. Sometimes it better to be more professional about a known outcome, then to let the known outcome out professional you. ;)
If you need help writing up a professional letter of resignation LMK (just PM me), sad but true in my 12+ years of management experience, I have read many, and written a few for myself. ;)Last edited by HR2L; 01-17-2012, 10:04 AM.

still no email back.
spineless boss is spineless, and HR2L he makes all the HR decisions and stuff, its a really small ma and pa style storage place and he manages every single one of them, so it's his choice to tell me or not.
contemplating emailing him again, he wanted to meet in person tomorrow so i'm not sure what i will be doing.

Ask the boss if he would be so kind as to formerly lay you off as opposed to being fired, assuming you will be getting fired anyways. This way you can still collect unemployment. If he's a nice guy, he should have no problem doing you this little favor. Now go child, learn the loopholes of our government system.world renown Harry Potter expert
