it's just a car for racing and accidents will happen in racing at the end of the day
important thing was that no one was hurt. I don't think it was apparent how much damage was done until he got out and checked it over and the last second of the video looked like he was getting ready to deliver some pretty shitty news to his son in law. didn't look happy in any case.

I wish I could retrofit those behind the seat pop-ups from the z's on my cabrio.
I've heard that my front windshield bracing is reinforced but I don't want to ever have to put that to the test.

I have one of each. My E30 is set up as an HPDE/weekend toy. It's got a custom 4-point rollbar with removable harness bar, Recaro SRD seats, and Willans 6-point NASCAR harnesses:



My 190E Cosworth is set up as a dedicated racecar. It's got a custom 6-point rollcage with integrated seat mounts, Recaro Pole Position seats, Sabaelt 6-point harnesses, window and center nets, and deactivated airbag:



They serve different purposes. The Mercedes is definitely safer on the track, as long as you're wearing an SA-approved heltmet and HANS device. But I wouldn't feel comfortable driving it around on the street. That means I can only enjoy the car a handful of weekends each season. The rest of the year, it's sitting in storage.

My E30 definitely gives up some safety on the track compared to the 190E, but it's probably better than when it was totally stock. It's a compromise: not as safe a full-cage plus fixed-back seats on the track; but you can actually run it on the street without too much hassle. The idea was to be able to drive to an event, spend the weekend at the track, then load up and go home. No need for trailering. We designed the rollbar and used reclining seats so we could easily load 4 race tires in the backseat area.

Like I said, it's a compromise...but it works for my needs. I've gotten more enjoyment from the E30 because I can just jump in and drive it whenever I feel like it. Once you fully cage a car, that option is off the table.

if its just a weekend racer, just do a good bolt in kirk or autopower 4pt untill you decide to move into another car or turn your car into a full dedicated track car where a full weld in cage is needed.

I'd do a roll bar in pvc. I heard that's what all the spec e30 and pro3 cars are switching over too.
