God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Use it man... It helps. I smoked OxyContin for 3 years. Checked myself into rehab and have been clean for 3 years now. Biggest advice I can give ya is be careful about any substance. I've found that its really easy to just trade your addiction for another drug. If ya want someone to talk to PM me and I'll give ya my number. I've done all the AA and NA meetings before. It's gonna be tough to stay clean but live the struggle day by day and know it is going to get better.

Hey man congrats!! Your story hit home for me (seems like a few others on here as well) I lost a roomate, best friend, and another close friend within 9 months of each other. Two to bullets and one to a motorcycle accident. If that wasn't a sign to slow my ass down I didnt see it and sunk deeper into a path to death or jail. Luckily I met the woman who was to become my wife and with her help straightened my life out. That was a little over ten years ago. I am now a special education teacher and thank god everyday for the people who cared enough to bring me out of that downward spiral.
Im not a man that shows emotion, but must admit I am quite proud of you and the others on this thread with similar stories.
Keep it up! ( To you and everyone who has been addicted at one point.)

stay strong man.
I come from a family of addiction. My grandpa was a drinker, my dad is a drinker/user, my mom drinks, etc.... Although my dad takes the cake(he has spent about 2 years without much work and when i visit him he is regularly drinking by 11am and smokes plenty of weed too). Whenever i confront him about it he just flips out and tells me to fuck off, needless to say our relationship isnt too great. It is a terrible life to lead, after my grandmother passed away this past fall (she had pretty much taken care of him his whole life, she was living with him for a year before she passed away). We all expected him to kill himself with alcohol or drugs. He called my younger sister in a panic at around 3 am the night following the funeral, she ran to his house to find my grandmothers cancer pain meds and empty booze bottles. He survived, and my sister hasnt spoke to him since..... He still is drinking and just wasting away. Its sad to see since he is an incredibly talented architect and builder, but vodka has a hold on him like you couldn't imagine.
Addiction will ruin your live and the lives of others. I really commend sobriety, keep it up man. As for all the other R3v'ers who are sober rock on!
