    Should I care about pronunciation?

My daughter is not pronouncing some words correctly, words such as Wednesday (she says Wensday) and breakfast (she says brekfist) for example.

Is there any real benefit to be gained from proper pronunciation? I hear very well educated people (neurosurgeons, lawyers, teachers) making the same mistakes... which makes me wonder if I am trying to correct something that may not hinder her ability to communicate well or affect her academic and/or professional career.

    What say you?

How old is she? talk to her teacher and express your concerns. They do have programs in schools for speech related issues.

As long as she doesn't say "melk" instead of "milk" I would let it go. Not many people find those examples you gave as being incorrect.

Whats incorrect? From the way you've describe how she pronounces those words, they seem proper...

Those words you set as examples sound like how the words should be pronounced.

No one i know says Break-Fast for breakfast, or Wed-nes-day for Wednesday.

            Silent letters yo.

because "brekfist" is pretty much how everyone pronounces "breakfast"

I mean, you don't say "Brake-fahst" or some shit, do you? Because then I'd be worried about YOUR pronunciation and not hers.

I too want to know the age. Colloquialisms aren't necessarily a bad thing. That, and accents obviously affect pronunciation.

Bad examples, those are all normal ways to say those things.

Nu-ku-lar instead of nuclear on the other hand is not. Other real examples escape me at the moment.

Then there are pronunciations that to me sound awful but other people use for instance..

Ma-tu-er, instead of mature. Makes me want to stab people, along the lines of people saying drownded...
