    +1

As an actor who regularly takes voice and speech lessons, I cannot agree more. I have noticed so much how ppl. use their voices incorrectly as well as the muscles in their mouth (tongue, lips, diaphragm etc.).

After doing voice lessons for the first three months, random ppl. would comment on how well my voice can carry, as well as how clear my speech is. No more of the days of ppl. asking me to repeat myself, esp. when I'm trying to make a strong point (think Morpheus on the Matrix).

nothing irks me more than someone with a strong Irish accent trying to take acting classes. Like honestly, nobody in class even has the slightest idea of what your trying to say in english, so go learn how to speak and MAYBE someone will take you seriously!

My 5 yr old pronounces hamburger "han-ger-ber", the 4yr old can whistle but he still says garbage "gar-jib", the 8yr old just got over pronouncing hospital "hoss-tip-el". The oldest is 13 and she has good grammar. Although, when she was about 5, I was chatting on the phone with her at lunch and told her I was in Miami, she replied with "Where is your ammy?" Had me cracking up the rest of the day.

      Lol at Wed-nes-day.

Let's not forget the geographic differences in pronunciation of certain words. It's actually pretty neat how many subtle differences there are in the English language from region to region of North America.

It always irks me when people pronounce days of the week as thursdi, mondi, tuesdi etc. instead of Monday

I find that most Americans and some Canadians tend to do it.

Could be a sign of dyslexia. Have it checked out if it happens often or with more words.

Isn't Mondi North East US? I'm from Denver and I think we learned the "cleanest" American English possible.

Most Americans? Maybe most you encounter, but I wouldn't take it as a representation of the whole country. Yes, it's annoying.

Another one is "libary" instead of library. One of my mom's friends when I was growing up would say "pitcher" instead of picture. Oh, don't want to forget "warsh the car" or "Warshington D.C.

Lol @ "malk", somehow I didn't think anyone else noticed that. There was a commercial for Milk-Bone dog biscuits a while ago and the kid kept saying Malk-Bone. Fucking drove me insane!

No, all three just had certain words and speak very well. My 8yr old is having a hard time with test taking and my brother was dyslexic, never thought about it until now. The boy had to have his tongue cut as well since he has Ankyloglossia (tongue-tied).

The oldest is in all honors/AP/advanced classes and still get's all A's with an occasional B, blessed with an IQ over 150. Don't know where THAT came from lol.

A girl in my college drawing class kept telling us how "fuss-strated" she was at the stippling project. Not only was she saying it wrong, but she used it about 50times in her presentation.

Each of these makes me immediately decide that the speaker is clinically retarded. also, it makes me want to punch them in the Ovaries.

True, she's four, but the first five are super important. These are the formative years, things she learns now will stay with her for life.

People around me tend to add an "er" to the of words. For example, instead of saying Shenandoah, they pronounce it shenando-er. They also say warsh and whatnot.

I also get the mountain people who jumble their words together and talk with a twang to the point of being incomprehensible. I hate it.
