It would be more of a concern if they said bwekfest or blekfest. Though parents nowadays don't care too much and think it's cute. My sister had problems saying "r" so she had a few sessions with a logopedist and the problem is gone.

Haha, yeah, I have been saying Wed-nes-day.

True, she's four, but the first five are super important. These are the formative years, things she learns now will stay with her for life.

I have found out that if you purposely say aesthetics, Ay-es-thee-tics, it pisses people off.

                      Dunno why.... Go try it.

pronunciation is most important when saying a persons' name- everyone has a right to this form of respect-

e.g. Ferdinand Porsche- two syllables por-sha
Saddam Hussein- Bush1 lost respect among Arab allies for mis-using his name.

other than names, pronunciation is idiomatic.

True, but people get sloppy and lazy with their speech.

Correct pronunciation of the English language is something that the majority of adults probably never really master.

A child in normal development will not be expected to say certain sounds, "zh", "th" "thr--" correctly until the age of 6-7. This is a bell-curve, with many children being ahead timewise and many being behind. Your child is 4 years old and correctly pronounces days of the week and meal times. "Wensday" and "brekfist" are perfectly acceptable in American English and are used by probably the majority of the population. Personally I know very few people who pronounce the words as described in the original post. Of course language is also dialect dependent and fluid throughout a population. Your child sounds completely normal. Any legitimate concerns should be addressed by your pediatrician at the next well-child visit. Be amazed by the progress children make, they are learning everything for the first time and are pretty damn good at it..
