reading through the rest of posts. It's not illegal to have tinted windows, it's illegal to go over a certain percent of light through put i forget what it is, something like 75% max tint of some shit. Which means it only blocks 25% of light, thay have a lumens meter and they can test your window to see if it passes. If not then you remove the tint and pay 25 bucks after a officer ok's it. Also strip on top of window, while I was at CHP office the officer cam out and noticed it right away and said you can get busted on this too. Now here is the catch if you look at your windshield towards the top left or right you will see an arrow pointing to a line. Now you can put your sticker strips whatever you want anywhere above that line, once it crosses (which mine does about an inch) you can be written a ticket. Anyone want to know about tinting tail lights and shit let me know, studyed it all cuz of cops.Last edited by Thizzelle; 04-25-2012, 11:21 AM."I wanna see da boat movie"

Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Expressyou can't be serious? How do you know those other people aren't getting pulled over 24/7? I worked at a garage where a cop would hideout and go after just about EVERYONE with non factory tint. It's illegal, why are you complaining that a cop is giving you a citation for doing something illegal? Do you think you should be above the law?

Yikes, California earns that reputation for no tolerance for modified vehicles. That light of a film couldn't have been noticeable at night.
I've had this on my daily for 2 years now, and only been stopped once and was let go. (probably helped I rolled all four windows down and hit the dome light so the officer could see inside before he came up)
I guess it all depends on the area and the car.-Dave

Cops use small violations like non factory tint, taillights being out, tags expired as a "gateway" to discovering bigger violations. Period!
It all starts rather harmlessly with them pulling you over and determining that you have illegal tint on your front windows. Its a valid law and even if other cops dont pull you over for it that does not nullify the law. Then what happens is they ask for documentation - License Registration and Proof of Insurance. Right there they have 3 opportunities to develop more illegalities. They hope that your license is expired, revoked, suspended. They also hope that your registration is out of date, registered to someone else and not been transferred over, etc. Then they hope you either dont have proof of insurance or you dont have insurance coverage at all!
Then they hope you will give them attitude so that they can say , We have probable cause to search your car. They can make up that they smell alcohol or pot on your breath just for the fuck of it. I mean its a sense of smell right? That is subject to interpretation! When I smell a petunia a cop may smell marijuana. Then if you refuse to allow the search of the vehicle thats fine as they can legally detain you while a canine comes to sniff the car. The K -9 may not smell of find a thing, but you see how this can become an inconveinience for you?
They may not have any grounds in the world to stand on , but they sure can tie up your time all they want. They use a "method".
Ive been through all that shit in California and worse. Gun point , forciby dropped to the ground from the rear, etc...
So you should be tickled pink that you did not get drug over the coals and no extensive probing of your car - exterior AND interior did not happen.
You got a FIX IT (NOT Fix UP) ticket that is taken care of as follows (for California Counties).
You or a professional strips off the offending tint
You drive your e30 to the closes CHP station (google that shizz) YES CHP station and not the local police station. CHP does all the inspections that concern vehicles in the state of California.
You walk up to the desk and show the duty officer your citation and tell him you have removed the tint and corrected the FIX IT ticket violation.
Dont voulanteer more information than that! Dont bitch and whine to the officer as that is counterproductive.
Then he or someone he designates will meet you out at your car and verify the VIN and plate numbers so that they determine they match the car noted on the citation. They will then inspect the car and make sure tint has actually been removed.
Then they will sign the back of the citation and indicate their badge number and send you on your way.
You then go to court and hand that signed off citation to the bailiff that then hands it to the judge. Judge looks it over and if all is hunky dory the judge dismisses the Fix It ticket.
You dont get any points on your driving record. Your insurance company never recveives record of any FIX it ticket related violation. Its essentially an infraction and not even a misdemeanor.
This is just a petty FIX IT ticket. Dont fix it though or report to court and then they can potentially issue a warrant for your arrest. Typically they dont though if the court system is backed up.
Also , Never , never , never drive to the CHP with a suspended license and park down the street thinking that they will never know that you drove there and you can just walk down the street a bit to your car and drive away.
When you do that they have a CHP officer walk outside and observe you as you walk away till you are no longer within eyesight. If that officer sees you get in a car and drive he immediately jumps in a CHP car and pulls you over.
Ask me how I know. LOL Oh, to be young and stupid! Those were the days!
Take care of it though as those same cops may pull you over again since you made some new "friends" and those bastards are just praying that you shit canned the ticket and did nothing about it!

Grow up. So what if the Cop was a dick, that shit happens.
I am sure if I was a Cop I would have my good and bads days having to put up with all the little faggets driving around probably packing giving me crap cos I am doing what I am paid to do.
Then you start arguing that you have driven past them before and they have done nothing, how the is that a problem. I am sure if I drove past the police every day with an illegal car, yet they did nothing about it for years I would be very grateful.
You need to remember you are a young kid driving around in a BMW, unfortunately the stereo type that gose with this is, kids with money from there parents, and most likely drugs in the car. Having chrome rims probably dose not help the fact.
Kids these days.sigpic
