indy car vs F1

F1 is based around teams with 400 million dollar yearly budgets building bespoke chassis whereas Indycar is based around a spec Dallara chassis built to a 500k cost cap with an engine lease program limited to 1.25 million for an entire season.
Based apon comments from Rubens Barrichello and Pippa Mann, who have driven both the current generation of F1 cars and the current Dallara Indycar, the indy car is "harder" to drive, owing to substantially less downforce and a lack of power steering. Rubens also expressed shock at the much different engine setup, be it a 10k limited turbocharged V6 that actually produces low end torque coupled to no traction control, vs a much higher reving and less torquey F1 V8.

Now, there is some room to ask for a definition of "fast". Is that maximum speed? acceleration? slalom course? Not to mention that a hot lap is different than wheel-to-wheel racing. But for the sake of argument let's say we mean wheel to wheel racing on the kinds of courses both of these cars frequent. In which case, the F1 car wins for a lot of reasons, but it will win.-------------------------------------------------

Typical, a car made to drive around in circles is for pussies.
Circle racing is the Jersey Shore of TV Programs.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Well, it use to be there was the IRL and then Indycars. IRL did almost all ovals, and Indycars did almost all road courses.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment

but I dare you step into one of those cars and maintain 200mph, 3inches from the car in front of you, while the rear end is bouncing and hopping around waiting to come around.Originally posted by TSI♫ Rust flecks are falling on my head...♫OEM+Comment

I don't think he was implying it's easy, simply that it's a ridiculous form of racing and doesn't exactly push the limits of what is possible. The restrictions are imposed by poor vehicle design and cars being adapted to an uncreative track. It may be a difficult discipline, as would getting a donkey drunk and trying to race them up a hill...I'm not about to plop down on a saturday to watch donkey racing just as I'm not going to sit down to watch oval track anything.Comment
