What to do in California?! Where to go, what to see?!

EDIT: This thread is now about my california vacation last week of July. I'm going with my friend, we're both 18 years old and we're going to be there from Thursday to Monday.

If there had to be ONE PLACE in California to visit, where would it be? We're kind of looking to party (aka alcohol), perhaps go to some 18+ clubs or whatever, just a place where an 18 year old can have fun in the night, we'll sightsee in the daytime. We don't mind traveling, we're going to have to take trains everywhere since we're not bringing a car, we're flying. So tell me r3v, what do you recommend!

Caltrans, VTA, BART. All public transportion that will get you around Cali (the SF Bay Area, at least). Cheaper than buying a car while you're here.. Also Public transportation can be very fun if you bring a bike with you or find a cheap one on CL when you get over, especially if its just you & a bud.

California is huge and there's lots to see and do.
How much time do you have and whas your plans? just the bay area? or do you want to see things like Yosemite, lake Tahoe, the wine country??

Fly there, buy cheap E30. Drive your Cali car back home after your trip

Fail. I will be driving my car in the opposite direction.
But if you can, see both Norcal and Socal.

it cost my friend and i $600 in gas to get to CA. figure $50/night for a motel. super8s are cheap out in the middle of no where.

but.... the adventure was really epic and i have a lot of good memories from that. and the grand canyon is fucking sweet.

Hmm, bicycles and public transport wouldn't really cut it. I think I'm going to have to take a car there (or buy an E30 there, but I love my current one). I'd really like to see all of what california has to offer in its entireity, not just stay in one place the entire time.

Kershaw, what car was it and what mpg were you getting? $600 in gas isn't bad.

We drive to New Mexico from time to time. It's fun to take a southern route there, and drive back a northern route. See different things, etc. Make sure you hit Yellowstone before it blows up!

                        Seriously, driving > flying erryday.

Yosemite is pretty cool. Good luck with it, having your own car will probably be your best bet.

Bicycle is the way to go around. I've ridden mine from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
