Obviously didin't read what I said. I understand the point of having different size drives.
But having very small sockets in large size drive and vice versa is unnecessary. Like can you think of something that the only option to use is a 9mm 12 point 1/2 drive where nothing else would do the job? Not a 9mm 3/8 drive? That's what i'm talking about. It's stupid. If that bolt needed to be torqued down that hard that you can't use a 3/8 drive then the manufacturer would have used a larger bolt and using a 12 point on a bolt that small that needs so much torque that it's necessary to use 1/2 drive is going to grind down the corners.
So almost every socket size is duplicated in 3 different drive sizes AND 12 point and 6 point AND a deep socket of it.

You have reading comprehension problems. That wasn't the point at all.

I'm definitely getting a set that has 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 drives. But you don't need the very small sockets in 1/2 drive and the very big sockets in 1/4 drive because typically smaller bolts are torqued less than big ones.

I'll ask again, have you ever worked on a car before? Plenty of times I have used even an 8mm on a half inch drive or even an impact set at low setting. For example, when releasing the fork tubes from the stays, 8mm on an allen key and an impact to knock it a couple of times. Additionally, if you buy the craftsman set, I don't know how many ratchets and sockets alike that I have broken, leaving my with the option to use a small sized socket on a large drive. They do it for a reason

            Yes.
And you could have just used the 8mm 3/8 drive.
And they will replace it for free under warranty if you break anything.

Evidently reading evades you. I used an impact because with just a 3/8 drive, the strut tube would turn. Additionally, that was just one example. And what I said about breaking the tools, it doesn't always happen at the most opportune time, ergo, you need another means to complete a job. You can buy whatever tool kit you like bud, they outfit them the way they do for a reason though.

You get what you pay for. Why is having too many of one socket a bad thing?

I just got the referenced Craftsman kit and its a great bargain for the price, pony up.

i bought a '01 chevy truck a couple months ago...first time I've used any standard size wrenches in about 5 years.

what pisses me off about american cars, is that they mix standard and metric fasteners on the same vehicle...i don't know if that's still the case, but I don't really care to find out.
