I get to work with wood everyday, I work at a commercial casework and millwork shop.
I've done everything from production finishing to furniture restoration to making furniture of my own using shop equipment and free walnut and mahogany offfall.
It's pretty rad, but construction industry deadlines suck a dick.

Here's the bed frame I just build this past week. It's my first "big" wood project.

        All done

Here's the shelfs that I made to go along with that square theme. I put my speakers on this one

And misc over on the other one

I will be refinishing that dresser to match. The veneer looks out of place

Very cool! I like the black wood. There is a Japanese tradition of burning the surface of boards and then lacquering them for both preservation and looks.
          Check it out.
“Experiment” is not something you want to hear when building your house. I’m not sure what I thought when the architect told me he would like to “experiment” with the …

A Japanese style burnt wood siding (shou-sugi-ban). This technique adds beauty and longevity to wood siding. Traditionally, cedar was burnt in Japan to increase the wood’s resistance to insects and fire. Delta Lumber & Millworks has modernized this technique and experimented with other species of wood, creating beautiful and one-of-a-kind appearances that have not been found in traditional wood products. Using species such as cypress and yellow pine, we use our burning technique to produce amazing...

Oh wow! I wish I would have seen that before...that would have been an option. I brushed on satin krylon paint. I was going to use a stain but doug fir loves to blotch and I didn't have the time to condtion/stain/lacquer. 3 coats of satin black did just fine!

            Thanks!

Nice work OP. I lack skill and patience for woodworking but I love admiring finished results.

It's a piece of walnut sandwiched by 2 pieces of maple. It's a natural sound amplifier, kinda like yelling into a cone :p

I started boat building school a bit more then a week ago. We've just been working on joints. Half laps, mitered half laps, half and full dove tails, all kinds of stuff. I had some pictures but I cans seam to find them right now. No power tools just hand tools. Fun stuff.
Ill be posting a lot as the year goes on. We should start building some boats after December.

Here are some of the joints we have done for our beginning projects, along with some of my tools. Some decent chiselsd, a nice set of Woodriver planes (low angle block, and #3 bench), some Japanese saws.

The wood works not that exciting or beautiful but it's just the first week. I'm happy with what iv learned and had gotten 3-3.5 out of 4 on all my work. Can't get enough of it :)
