One time I was cleaning the bottom of an engine with carb cleaner. I took great care to aim the spray exactly where I wanted it and pressed in on the nozzle. To my surprise, I had the nozzle oriented 180 degrees off and I sprayed the carb cleaner directly into my right eyeball. I was wearing eye protection, but pushed it up on my forehead so I could see better. It hurt like a bitch, but I was fine after flushing my eye with water for a few minutes. the experience made me feel stupid and the GF still gives me crap over it. Otherwise my hands and arms always have a few cuts and scrapes; I just call them "bimmer bites".

had the hood close on my head. bloody bump.
had a 19mm wrench come off while pulling (lol) to get a guibo nut/bolt free. put my tooth through my lip AND chipped another one.
Multiple hand/arm cuts, abrasions.
Brake Kleen deflected into my eyeball from 5-6 ft away (ALWAYS WEAR GOOGLES) tranny fluid, oil, gasoline misc fluids in the eyes didn't convince me... brake kleen did.
When pulling off my old 318i steering wheel it suddenly came loose and I hit my face, fell backwards, hit my neck where the rear seat should be, and rolled backwards until my feet were in the rear window (gutted car)
1/2" drive ratchet fell off and cracked me in the eye.
surprisingly I only hurt myself working on e30s. *knock on wood*
EDIT for the near miss:
almost died working on the front suspension for the first time. gland nut was loose, shock mount springs off past my face and into the garage door above me. It broke the door and ricochet back to the floor, where it ricochet yet again and dented the wall.Last edited by genocide98; 06-27-2012, 04:01 PM.

Years ago, when I was working in the High-end Car Audio field, I was making a trim panel out of masonite, cutting it on the table saw. If you've ever cut masonite, you know how much dust is generated and on a painted shop floor, it can become like an ice-rink slippery. So I'm cutting and my feet slip and I put my left hand down to catch myself... guess what is spinning with carbide teeth where I put my hand down? Yup, sliced off the side of my left thumb and all the meat flew back onto my nice white t-shirt... that was pretty tasty. Now I have a flat side on my thumb to show for it. Thankfully, I didn't put my palm down on the blade... Yikes!
Recently, I was cutting 1/4" plate aluminum on the chop saw for my motor mounts. I was nipping off the corners to round them off and the piece caught and kicked back into my hand. It carved a 1/4" wide gouge in the palm of my hand, pealed the flap of skin back and I think it fractured the bone between my wrist and my pinky knuckle. I looked down at my hand, shook my head and said out loud... "well that was pretty fucking stupid". I wrapped it up and drove home, had to pull over for 5 minutes halfway home from the pain. I butterfly bandaged it and toughed it out... had to keep going on the project, lol! It's still a little tender and that was back in February, IIRC...
Anyone accidentally flash-burn their eyes when welding? That's pretty fun... it's like having someone pour a cup of sand into each eye later that night. That sucks, period...
Other than the normal cuts and scrapes from being a mechanic, those were the only bad injuries I can think of...

I do a ton of welding and have done that. Worst was back in 06, built a turbo kit in a weekend. That was back before I had an auto-darkening helmet and a cheap wire feed that the tip was always hot. Trying to get into position to weld, then flip the helmet down - ruined my eyes for a couple days.

im a big guy and when doing a ps rack on my old vw, i would scoot underneath the car (the stands arent very tall) and onetime just slammed my head straight onto the concrete floor of my garage.. So loud, hurt so bad.
Since that time, I had baught a harbor freight creeper, so I dont gotta shuffle underneath a car, and saves time. Just gets me pissed when I am running a drop light and cant move because of the wire getting caught under the wheels.
Tons of rust and such in my eye, gasoline too. I break out the safety glasses now, I think I am blessed to still have vision so I am trying to protect it now haha.
