Not for iRacing, no, I ran it just fine years ago on an old 4gb R290x. But I'd like to run some of the prettier games at full max on 3 monitors and still keep the frame rate up.

Yep. If cars are your hobby, you don't learn anything from racing sims.

    :p

Wish I could upgrade to a 1080 as my 1070 just doesn't give as much as I would like while running three screens but even 1070's are more than double what I paid for mine. Ugh

RAM prices are at a premium but that doesn't account for the near triple pricing. Yes, miners are not helping the market one bit.

So would you consider AutoX and HPDE, not hobbies?

What do you have to show at the end of an HPDE weekend? A wallet that's lighter by $600-1000 dollars and more wear and tear on your car?

If you fish and turn the fish back loose after catching them, is that a hobby? Do you consider a sunburn "something to show for it?"

Yea....I have a i7 CAM/EDITING rig smashed into a vintage 2000'ish IBM Intellistation case. "Modded" - I guess you would say. Snore, snore snore.

Prices are a bit silly right now due to a supposed Memory shortage, but honestly I remember some of the late 90s early 2000s top end rigs being actually insane in price.

I am probably due for a new PC, but every time i go looking at prices man they are just too high. I'd rather buy car bits than PC bits!

My close to 8yr old PC (First gen i7) still does quite well due to a recent edition of an SSD. SSD seems to make a huge difference in keeping old PCs running. MY laptop is 10yrs old but with an SSD and normal use it still performs very well.

Maybe im getting old and what i consider a fast PC isnt fast at all :P

Yes, I've bought them in the past(nvidia quadro), but that was for video editing, and required by the software to even work (back in the day).
Some people like playing modern games at 100+ Frames.

They are only really this expensive right now because of the 'muh shortage' manuf. are excusing about.

Plus its a hobby, no different then telling someone 'why did you spend 3k on your camera, or 5k on your shitty 80s bmw that is still broken down in your storage unit'.
