Looking for a new job, a new home, a new life.

So here is what I am trying to do: I am trying to find a new job in a different city.

A little back story. First, I am married and have two kids (2 and 10 months). My wife was laid off off from her job about a month or so ago. I am in a job that I can't stand. After talking for some time we have decided that we need a change of pace, a change of scenery. We both have grown up here in Northern FL and its gotten old. Before my current job, I worked in the powersports (motorcycles, atvs, PWCs) industry for about 5 years, done everything from wash bikes, to sell them and manage parts and service departments. However, the industry is not that big here. So I have had to take a job outside of my passion and training.

After talking with my wife we have decided we want to move away from here and start a life somewhere else. What I am trying to do is find a job in the powersports industry again, somewhere else, and make a move. My wife is jobless and my kids are little they don't really have friends or go to school, so no uprooting them. I feel now is as good a time as any.

What I would like is input, suggestions, advice or assistance. I have begun applying for positions around the country and prepared to fly out or drive to interview. I know several people on here work in that industry. If you happen to know of a position open, let me know. I can get my resume over to you or your manager.

I realize some people will think I am crazy for moving my entire family for a scenery change. But our minds are set and we will see this through. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Probably going to rent for the time being. 3 bedroom/2 bath. Prefer a house but a town home/duplex or even 1st floor apt with garage would be suitable.

I can really move anywhere. I'd prefer California to say Nebraska but if opportunity awaits I'll take it.

Come to Idaho. Lower cost of living, epic scenery change, and, year round powersports. Cycles/ATV's in the summer and lots of nearby dunes, and turbocharged snowmachines in the winter. Win, Win.

What are you looking for in a new community? What is important to you other than a "change of pace?"

You've told us your experience, but what about real skills? What jobs are you trying to get?

That would run you about 1200-1800 in the greater Seattle area, downtown apartments expect 2k+. Farther away from the city it gets cheaper. I recently moved here from Wisconsin and love it.

I will echo this sentiment. But I would suggest looking at getting into the Gas filed work thats in the area. There is 20 years worth of work around there, and will pay you much much better than anything you can dream of making fixing quads and dirt bikes...

I live out in West, but work in this area A LOT along with the rest of PA and upstate NY.

In terms of employment, I have excellent customer service and managerial skills. I have run service and parts departments, sold motorcycles (sold cars for a little while). I currently work in a call center and its just not for me. I like to be out and helping people one on one. I have been applying for powersports jobs so far but I would consider other work as well.

In terms of communities, I'd like an area with a large outdoor interest. Preferably kid friendly, small town feel (not necessarily a small town)

I don't mind living away from the city. I'd prefer to work in town and live slightly out of it.

Again, I repeat my earlier suggestion. I did this same thing almost four years ago when I leftthe Los Angeles Metro area. I've never looked back, and never been happier.

You can legally smoke pot and marry a dude here in WA. And there is no state income tax. FTW!

Unfortunately, that sounds like skills a lot of people have.

I'd look into cost of living calculators, what your financial goals are as well. I would go against mrsleeve's reco of the oil/gas biz because you have a family and I doubt you have the desire to work 70-80 hour weeks away from them.

I would stay south of the Mason-Dixon line unless you are talking about somewhere in the Rockies/Montana, or maybe Portland.

My wife and I would love to go to Montana, Nashville or similar. But we've accepted that we will basically never be able to move.

My wife and I successfully moved to Portland, OR in June. She's a RN and I work in healthcare administration. We both found jobs in short order. Both of our jobs pay quite a bit more than what we were making in Houston, TX. Housing here is pretty expensive, though.
