get a flight sim. with the amount of helis ive wrecked training on there, it would be like $100k IRL.

I used to fly them all the time. For to expensive to do that, mess with my car and have a GF at the same time so I have it up until I'm better financially.

It gets expensive with repairs because you WILL break a bunch of rotors, possibly bodies and legs, ect.. Stick to twin rotor copters for indoor use. Unless you age a huge warehouse you're hiding or you don't mind slicing your walls. The most expensive part Is learning. After that its not so bad except for buying parts. I stuck with align copters and never has any issues. It's very fun and challenging but very rewarding for how fun it is. Lots of people get curious when you bring a helicopter to the park.

Best things to practice to make sure you have a good skills foundation are nose in and side in hovering. Anybody can hover looking at the tail but try reversing the direction! I would also suggest hovering at eye level (but at least 7 feet in front of you) because you will be well clear of downdraft at that altitude (you'd be surprised, even by the little heli's). Once you can hover nose/side in through a whole battery pack pretty consistently I'd try flying in ovals and figure 8's in alternating directions. It's a pretty slow and methodical way to start, and can seem downright boring, especially after watching any of the Szabo bros videos, but it's a solid learning foundation that will pay off huge down the road. Crashing heli's gets expensive and the easiest way to minimize crash damage is to increase your skills in small but sure footed steps. Hope that helps, enjoy the hobby, sure is fun! You'll be 3D in no time!

                    Do be careful though...

I was checking rotor tracking at eye level and a bolt sheared that many hours on it...damn near got impaled. My heli was a 400 sized electric, and those little suckers MOVE and will slice fingers off at full tilt.

Truth! Sorry, by eye level I mean more eye-ish level. Just not 6 inches off the ground like most pilots learn to hover at ;)

yeah got my little 4 ch today. been messing with for a few hours now. its way more responsive and maneuverable. Crash it regularly, that said I am trying to get it trimmed out with servo links, and the little bastard just wont trim out.

I get it good side to side so I dont have 3/4 my trim knob and a little left or right stick to keep it tracking and the thing wants to run away from me forward, with full back trim on and an have to keep bumping the stick back to keep it from running off.

Now I have it where when trying to hover it just wants to fly in a 4 foot circle and the more I mess with it the faster it gets away from me.....

                        I will get it eventually

I learned following a very strict model online. If I can find the link i'll post it.

                          Here are the basics.

-Draw a 16x16" box on the ground.
-Set helicopter in the center, and speed it up, DO NOT LIFT
-Keep the helicopter within the lines until the battery dies
-If the helicopter comes out of the lines, shut it down, reset, and try again. This is based off of disipline.

-After you can do this for an entire battery pack, repeat for nose in, right in, left in, ect.

Then do all of that, at 6 inches above the ground. Just remember, if you come out of the box, reset! You must learn to crawl before you can walk. The idea is that while mastering the process of hovering in all directions, you will automatically develop the skills needed to fly.

If you follow that, your wallet WILL thank you. This procedure is also done WITHOUT training gear, as you won't need it if you practice self control.

I started with the Blade CP a few years ago. Then built a Shogun 400 and hopped it up by adding a 480 motor for a T-Rex (had to turn it down to 60%). Use a Hi-Tec transmitter to avoid crystal changes.

Thanks for the tips, I got the hover thing down now for the most part. My toilet bowl was because the fly bar was installed 180* out form the factory. Thats why it was so uncontrollable, took it off flipped it over and now it hovers nearly as stable as my s107, just a little more minor tweeking on the servo rod end links and I will have it 100% trimmed mechanically. It will be a little while before I am chasing cats and the dog around with this new one but I will get there.
