my 1/10th scale nitro used to tear up the street. os .16 motor with 2 speed and ball clutch. Thing was wicked. Would try to wheelie when 2nd gear kicked in & would always chase cars down my street. For sure hit mid 50s if not 60+ with ease. In the end though just to much mess/ maintenance. Lipo/electric is the future!

I think they are typically too fast with too large a turning radius to be fun indoors, but to bouncy, small, and slow to be fun outdoors.

A 1/10 scale can handle grass and gravel well, while a 1/18 will have a harder time.Comment

That is my reasoning almost exactly. Outside they are really just to small to run on anything except flat pavement. Even on a gravel driveway they will get hung up, and it is not uncommon for dirt to get into the steering system and prevent the wheels from turning. Trust us, once you run it outside once, you will wish you had something different. If I still had some 18th scales I would give you a great deal on one to try it out, but unfortunately I sold them all already. I pretty much only have 10th scales, and a handful of micros to run around the house.Comment

Ok, that makes sense. I'll keep thinking about it I guess. Thanks for the info! That is my reasoning almost exactly. Outside they are really just to small to run on anything except flat pavement. Want to get another r32 and do it better. This and my m3 have been my all time fav bodies from hpi so far. Cant choose my next body hpi just because they're common at my local hobby shops. Either a supra or s15.

Glad you had fun at the first race! The stock AE servos are junk...even the MG ones. It is wise to spend a few bucks here on a good servo. I would look into an ACE/Xp Ds1313 or DS1015, or a spektrum s6040. All great servos! Another thing you will want to do if you upgrade the servo is superglue the steering bellcrank (to eliminate the servo saver) or upgrade to aluminum cranks, it will make the steering much more consistant.Comment

So with this onslaught of winter weather, my e30 at the painter (still), and a break between semesters, I have been stuck inside, and getting antsy to tinker with tools. I decided yesterday that I should take all of the parts from a TL-01 chassis (which has a monocoque frame), and attach everything to a carbon fiber 'tub' style chassis to help improve the weight balance and lower the center of gravity. Would it have been easier to just buy a used cf car on ebay? Absolutely, but what fun would that be?

I started trimming out the middle of the chassis, with the goal of keeping just the gearbox and control arm mount points. I then trimmed and sanded the bottom of the bulkheads flat, in order to bring the housings as low as possible on the chassis. I still have quite a bit more plastic to trim. The drawing shows my initial plan for the bottom chassis. There will be another narrow brace across the top.

Will this be an improvement over the fully hopped up tl-01 chassis on the right? Quite possibly not. But I'm having lots of fun, so thats something.

I'll post pictures of the build as it progresses.Last edited by Andy.B; 01-08-2014, 08:48 AM.Comment

That's what they were made for as they have this like ring around them so it gives it a stretch tire look, I also have some 12mm offset TE37's that I plan to run and me and my friends swap wheels like crazy. I also have a E30 M3 body coming and a 911 RSR body I'm going to make into an RWB build :D'91 318is w/ M50B25TU
