I' more likely to skip over E36 and go straight to an E46.

I have a lot of hate for e36s, but when it comes down to it; they're good driver's cars. If I could get over the styling.. And the sagging head liner.. And the nasty interior.. And the door card glue that was designed to utterly des integrate with the slightest look.. Well, I'd daily one for bout a year before growing sick of it

I would consider an m3/2/5 with suspension/wheel mods, ie. coilovers and bbs RSs. I've never driven or even been in one before, let alone a DOHC inline 6.

I've owned two both S5x variants. I enjoyed them but prefer my swapped e30 hands down. I also like the e46 better than the E36. Like any BMW they are expensive as balls to get up to/keep up to date with maintenance.

Stout quality and simplicity is definitely lacking compared to the e30, but the m50/52 is worth it. The handling experience is less engaging, probably because the rear suspension alignment wise is more advanced and superior to the e30 rear suspension, but being more efficient and compliant does not equate to a better driving experience. Some would say that argument could be extrapolated to say land yacht muscle cars are more fun handling wise than an e30 with the exception of the trump ace the e30 has up its sleeve over the e36 ...weight. the e36 is a fat bitch, just like the e46. The e30s will always be "better" handling because they are more fun to drive due to how nimble they are. Donor only, take the motor and scrap the rest, interior included.

E36 m3 was the best handling car in the world at the time of its production.

Says the e28 fellow who is trying to off load his e36 and get a free bump on his fs thread. Lol

E30 is still more fun to drive. Slower maybe, but more engaging

I really like my '98 328i, black four door with dove sport interior, 5 speed. Bought it with 185,000 miles, just about everything is fine with it except it needs front control arms, and some rust to address (it's been a Michigan car all it's life). The interior is still very solid. It's fast, quiet, comfortable, smooth. The driving experience isn't as engaging yet it simply feels more capable than the e30's i've driven. The fit and finish is tighter than an e30 and overall the entire car is just down to business. I can totally imagine the original owner being some kind of executive and a stereotypical BMW driving douche bag...

I'll always prefer the '80s design cues and the driving experience of an e30.

My bro had one before his e39 and he seemed to enjoy it a lot. I drove it a few times and it was nice.

E36 will be appreciated in 15 more years or when they are harder and harder to find. Then the new generation then will say, "shit WTF was that car that pass by, nice.. gotta love the old school!!!"

OTOH they might be forgotten completely and remain unloved like the A3 Golf versus its predecessor. Still, nothing wrong with an E36 as a daily if you can stand the low quality.

My buddie bought a 98 328is that was completly bone stock (5-speed) and it was dealer maintained the letter before he bought it and it has been dead reliable and the door cards are still nice, on the flip side i had 318is as a daily for about a year and it was a complete pile, i had about $5000 in it in one year including pretty much a complete suspension and engine refresh just to get me threw school and all i had at the end of the day it was just a 4 cyl E36. (could have used it all on the E30 i had that is now my DD :hitler: )

If there taken care of there great as a DD and there super easy to drive on a long distance trip, comfortable and such. But if there trashed your wallet will hate you.

My current stash! I bought it to flip but wound up liking the car. A slight drop, RSIIs, and monochrome...just the way I like it. No matter what, my coupe is far more engaging but the e36 does make for a nice DD. I get far more looks and thumbs up from the e36 than my e30s. From kids to grandmas. As far as quality, my door panel is lose but other than that, no complaints with 166K on the digital readout. I do agree with some here that the drivers e36 is the M3/4/5.
