Used to power lift, then I got married and started school again so it came to a stop. My wife and I still hit the gym 3-4 times a week. We follow the Wendler 5/3/1 program. I just set a new PR, kinda unique. I pulled 395lbs. with a double overhand grip for 5 on Sunday. Usually at 475lbs. sumo with over/under grip.

It sounds weak but I got a high resistance flex band and pull up bar( for the door way) and with a good diet, cardio, and core exercises I've gotten into fucking great shape and recovered 15 pounds, within a month, of the 35 I lost after I switched medications. I'm back to about 175lb at the height of 6'1". Like 20 minutes every other day or two as well.

Go big or go Home. 500lbs. on a trap bar is still a feat! Not to many people can pickup double there body weight off the ground period......that puts us way ahead of the game!

                  In regards to the programs..

I started with 5x5 and like 115lb BW... went to 145 in a year... and really improved all my lifts.. especially chest where I lagged a lot.

                  I started with a 70lb Bench, 90lb DL, and 60lb Squat.

My current numbers I posted earlier... however I haven't really made much progress in the past year.. just sorta been maintaining.. really been busy with school/work this past year. I always make pretty good gains in the summer though. I also do a lot of cardio too.

Now that I have a pretty solid base I find 5/3/1.. or some variation of, to be better.

just remember though, programs don't mean jack, if you diet sucks.

absolutly diet is very very important.

Training wise... one BIG thing I learned is if your not getting stronger your not building muscle...period. You see the ones that still bench or squat the same weight year after year...

I always do singles to get my body/muscles/joints ready for handling heavier weights. my work sets are more like 3 x 5 (example on trapbar I use 400 pounds) 2 months ago 400 pounds was my single. my legs went from 25" to 26.5 closer to 27".. chest from 48 to 49.5 arms 17 1/4 to hair over 18" .....

just what works for me.... but now am curious about the wender 5/3/1 :)

The beauty of the Wendler program is you are always lifting in your 65-95% total capacity range. It's usually a 4 week cycle and you go up 5lbs. on every lift after a cycle. It's slow growth but it solid growth. When I started I could barely overhead press 135lbs. without looking like a little turd. I just did a triple at 200lbs. Pick up the book off of amazon, get his second edition, it has a lot more assistance work you can do with it.

                        I have seen crazy gains.

I used to bodybuild. Never used a trapbar much, I did the old over/under grip with a regular straight bar or used straps when it got real heavy. I loved deads. So pure and made you feel like a beast when you knocked out a few good reps.

Anybody every use the doggcrapp method? (Yes, that's the actual name). I made a lot of gains with that. I went from approx 275 for 8-10 on inclines to 375 for 6-8, added well over 100lbs to my squats, hacks, etc. Pretty much got way stronger on every exercise I did on a regular basis.

Went from like 240ish to about 270 all in about 2 years. And I had been at it for a long time by then so those gains were hard to come by. It's super simple and straightforward.

Good job on the PR OP. The most ive ever farmer walked with a trap bar was 430 before i hurt my back, that was @ 5'9 and 154 lbs around 8% bodyfat/shredded. Started do do a lot higher rep/bodybuilding style training and now am 17 pounds heavier with a few bodyfat % more

this was 405 lbs, two weeks before my PR i believe

thanks man. I never seen farmers walk with the trapbar.. I would not recommend it since its dangerous to walk with it and for your back. If you want to build legs/back/neck do the trapbar like I do...handles down..90 degree legs...back straight pull up 3x5 reps 2x a week with 1 single a week. I have a buddy just doing that and 4 months into it he looks to have added a good 15 pound of muscle easy.

I gym regularly, unfortunately I weigh a shoddy ~140lbs on a good day. I need to eat more but it's difficult being a broke-ass college student. I also wrestled for my school for a couple years so a lot of the exercises I practice are more strength-building and less about mass. Dont get me wrong, I'd love to gain another 10 lbs.
