I'm in the same boat. My G4 is barely 5 months old.

The best is my 6 year old Titanium G4 that is now 16.7x slower than these new laptops, with 1/12 the hard drive space, and 1/4 the RAM. Still runs like a champ though (minus the super glue, electrical tape, soldering, and the random column of pixels that stopped working).

That's awesome. I ran my 1st gen iMac from '97 until it died in '03 (still ran like a champ until then), and I'll do the same with my iBook.

Kills me that 2 people I know JUST bought new laptops, they both wanted macs, but I told them to hold off until the new intel laptops came out...missed it by less than a week.

Numbers don't always mean everything. Older G4 towers with 1-1.5Ghz processors were always benchmarking faster than 2.5-3Ghz PC units. Same goes for the G5s, G4 laptops, etc.

Also, speed doesn't always mean a computer is better. You guys are handicapped by the shittiness of your OS, so everyone feels they should make up for that with high Ghz numbers just to sell.

                        Has anybody used iLife 06?

I'd like to get a copy of iPhoto 6, but I really don't care about the dvd and hd shiz that comes in the package.

Clock rate means the chip is faster than another, given the same chip. However, some chips can perform more operations on a single cycle than other chips.... Clock rate does sell chips though .... 1 gigahertz OMG!!1!

Wonder when Intel will finally release their 64bit chips....

Give it up Apple dudes, you are almost as sad as the Firefox advocates.

You do understand that Apple does make computers? I fail to see how the imac and ibook are gimmicks. And apparently you can't tell the difference between a gimmick and the most successful product this century (Apple sold over 14 million ipods in 2005). The Newton was just a failed PDA, it gave way to the Palm Pilot and Pocket PC's.

You do realize that the reason Apple has been successful over the past couple of year is due to the return of Steve Jobs, and the adoption of the NeXT Computers' project that resulted in OS X?

Well they've had 64-bit enabled chips for a while now... EM64T anyone?

Apple isn't going bankrupt, but they aren't going to take over the market, either. They have their little cult and may chip in a little form the success of the iPod. but, wholesale change is not happening anytime soon.
