PCs are great as well; I'm just never going to use Windows. It's a pretty poor OS. The only thing that it has going for it is third-party support.

Apple is gaining market share slowly but surely. The ipod has given them tons of money for development of new computer technologies.

The reason that Apple even survived before OS X is because if Microsoft were to drive them out of business, Microsoft would become an international monopoly (linux is freeware, so it has no true representation). This would mean that Microsoft would have to break up into smaller companies to make way for new competition, which is obviously not what Microsoft wants. This is why they allowed Apple to survive during the OS 7-9 years.

But that was all before OS X, the return of Steve Jobs, and of course, the ipod. All of these have contributed to Apple's growth in recent years (about 3-4% market share since the debut of OS X).

You forget the wonderful pirating abilities, despite spyware/adware/virus attacks (gotta love those).

And for the record, I have two computers, one pc and one mac.

I don't think Apple's vast success makes their computers any more better or appealing. If it turns out that the money they have earned helps their R&D turn out better computers, more power to them.

I think iPods are a big waste of time, and the only reason I bought a Mac was for the operating system. I can get the support of third-parties and the Unix base that I wanted.

If you have read anything about their universal binaries and the Rosetta emulator then it seems pretty apparent that this is already happening.

I just can't stand people that refuse to give credit for the ipod. It has been the best mp3 player on the market since it's introduction (that's five years for whoever's counting), and everyone seems to believe that it's success has been a fluke. Sorry if I sound hostile, but I remember the days of carrying my first ipod around and people giving me the deer-in-the-headlights look because they had never seen one before.

I think they are great too. Would I buy one? Not personally. I just wouldn't use it enough.

This is exactly what Apple wants customers to say. If Apple can build a PC that doesn't run on Windows, and they have the best OS, why would anyone not want a Mac?

And there is no doubt that the ipod serves as their biggest marketing tool. They want people to wonder if Apples are as easy to use as their ipods, and this is how they want to generate interest in their company.

Use what you like, and I'll use what I like.

In the end, you are wrong, and I am wrong.

Some of us just like to use better technology, it's nothing personal.

Like slower rendering, not up to opening some sites at all technology.

                        Vast improvement.;)

I use a mac, what do I know?

My firefox on mac runs well :) Much faster than IE (which I would NEVER install on my Powerbook.)

and now the other distributors will be playing catchup because the Yonah (intel core duo) is the best mobile processor on the consumer market.

most of you haters have never played the game, so spare us the bullshit.
here's an analogy for you. apple computers are to bmw as windows pc's are to fiat.
macs are faster, more reliable, and therefore cost more. fiats just break down and always need work (in this case spyware and virus scanning)

i know that if apple computers got more mainstream then they would be attacked by viruses and spyware, but right now there aren't (spare one virus that is disguised as a Microsoft Office install file.)
Oh, I have played the game. Many many many times throughout the years. At one time (back in the P2/K6-2 days), you might have had a point. No more. I will have a challenge that my Mandriva x64 box will whip any mac's ass.
PC's break due to user error. If you build your own computers using quality parts and actually know how to run a PC, you dont have problems.
The base problem is that you are comparing the average user to average user. I am talking about technology and bleeding edge software, where PC's have an enormous advantage.

On an WinXP machine, IE is much better. The only peopl who benefit are those who are glutted with crap from spyware, porn, warez sites, etc.

You seem very narrow minded about other browsers.

Fact: for ME, firefox 1.5 is faster
Fact: for ME IE6 is a piece of crap
Fact: for ME IE7 Beta 1 is much better.

going to say I have spyware, porn, and warez tojans on my machine now ;)
