PC's break due to user error. If you build your own computers using quality parts and actually know how to run a PC, you dont have problems.
The base problem is that you are comparing the average user to average user. I am talking about technology and bleeding edge software, where PC's have an enormous advantage.
That's no fair, I meant windows users. Linux people are no fun.

But I'm not sure you're familiar with the term 'WinRot'. Microsoft has admitted that the problem does exist, which is the eventual degradation of a Windows install on a hard drive. This is why Microsoft recommends that you reformat your hard disk every 12 months. This is just one of the problems that the OS has, which unfortunatly will occur no matter how well you maintain your PC.

going to say I have spyware, porn, and warez tojans on my machine now ;)
James, I have tried firefox on several machines - my office unit, my laptop, several of the desktops we have at home - every instance it is slower. I hear some people say it works well for them. maybe - just not for me.

I would quickly withdraw that statement unless you have a quad G5 powermac.

In that case, you could go ahead and rape him.

Personally I have had no problems with Firefox running on my PC, although I do hear of occurences when it just seems to be pokey for some people.

                Meh.

A Mac laptop or a Linux powered desktop are for me, maybe not for you.

Right, and my build cost me ~1300 with a 19" LCD monitor.
How much did it cost to buy your mac?
That is the #1 reason why mac's are way too far gone for people who know computers.
On top of that, I think will go play HL2.

I love Apple's design and friendly user interface but the fact that people here are praising Intel? Are you fucking kidding me? if you know anything about modern day processors and visit many of the computer hardware forums, you will see that Intel has lost it's fan appeal. Overpriced, power hungry, and just plain out slower processors. Why is Dell being speculated to start using AMD chips, why not, they are the better performer straight out. Check out the new FX-60 chip, blows the Intel counterpart straight back into the barrel it came from. I know that being able to use an X86 for dual boot, etc. is promising, but hey, Apple fucked not only itself, but alot of it's faithful users. You as a company(Apple) state out G5 processor is this and that much faster than this Intel chip, the core duo comes out, not really raising the bar dramatically over prescott and now all of a sudden this chip is such and such faster than the G5. Bullshit. Brainwashing is what it is.

Oh and if someone wants to benchmark some FPS series', I would love to on my dual core opteron system clocked at 2.7GHz with dual 7800GT's(sorry no GTX's) and 2 gig's of RAM with dual 10K raptors in RAID 0 configuration, or quite frankly any other intesive series of tests out there.

I had been an Intel guy for quite some time but when I was building my new system I decided to try out AMD. I am running an Athlon 64 2800+ and I'm quite happy with it. It's not night and day from Intel but I'd buy AMD again.

IBM couldn't make a G5 for use in laptops because it was running so hot that they couldn't keep it from melting cases. The intel core duo is the best mobile processor to this date. I hope you don't honestly think that an AMD Sempron could perform half as well as the core duo.

This is all besides the fact that AMD simply does not have the necessary resources to produce chips for Apple. Intel, however, can dedicate entire fabrication plants to Apple's chip development and manufacture on the scale that Apple needs. So even though the AMD 64 processors outperform the intel counterparts, it doesn't really matter.

If you mean overpriced and power hungry, perhaps you are thinking of the Pentium 4? These had an operating frequency of up to 4.0 GHZ, but if you notice that these were not even consitered for the new Apple computers. The ones that Apple are using are the new low-power dual core processors, with operating frequencies all less than 2.0 GHZ.

And there is no evidence that Dell has solicited AMD with plans of using mainstream processors, only the Opteron, which is used for server applications. They have also done this before (early 2004) in order to get more attention from intel. This could be because of intel's new dedication to Apple.

And, lastly, Apple has not screwed anyone. Their software from this date forward will contain universal binaries so that they are compatible for both PowerPC and Intel processors. The new computers also contain powerful emulation software (called Rosetta) which can translate old binaries (designed for PowerPC processors) on-the-fly so that new users with intel processors can use software that was written even before the release of OS X.

Next time do some research before you mouth off about AMD. I wish Apple would use AMD desktop chips too, but unfortunatly it can't happen anytime soon.

You know they have a two button mouse that ships with their desktops, right? And I know what you mean, I'd rather run a shitty OS just so I could play some cool games too.
