up until now with Core Duo, but have you seen the new VIIV, and hey what about the disgraceful Pentium D? These are new products from Intel and I will not deny that they show promise with 65nm production. But that is like comparing the new M5 to the last generation E55. Wait till AMD introduces the new M2 platform aith DDR2, which supposively might migrate to DDR3 within 12 months.

VIIV isn't a processor, it's a platform. AMD has a media platform as well, called AMD Live! The Pentium D is not a bad processor at all, unless you are talking about the Celeron D, which is based on ancient technology. M2 is just a new chipset, the processors will probably be operating just as fast as the ones out now from the onset.

Yes I know VIIV is a platform designed primarily for entertainment purposes. The intro of Pentium D dual core processors was a joke with the amount of heat production and total power usage to run a processor barely in the same league as a dual core AMD X2 processor. With the new Socket M2 processors, I am aware that the few incarnations of the processor will wear similar numbers as the higher Socket 939 counterparts but with the new fabrication it will allow for high clock speeds with better thermal regulation. Sorry if I come across rude, but in reality I like talking with you about this, not too often that I get to. Well anyways, we shall see what the future brings.

Some new data on the new Presler dual core 65nm processor, the EE 955 which is top of the line as we speak, but just look at the numbers.

Yea, I know AMD has some really nice stuff on the top end of the spectrum, but they really don't produce those high end processors on that big of a scale, and they really only are sold in the high-end gaming computers (alienware, falcon-nw, voodoo, etc.) Other than that they are sold for ridiculous amounts of money to people building their own PC's.

I would like to see some spec differences between the Pentium D and the Core Duo as well, I know that the Duo has an ultr-low voltage rating, and I wonder how much that impacts performance, if at all.

The numbers speak very well for AMD, but there they have so much working against them, it's just not really possible for them to be an option for Apple.

I totally agree with you about the supply and demand theory because as we know, Intel has been around a while and will stay around, their sales reach far beyond what AMD has, as far as the notebook scene, I will not deny it, Intel has it locked. Their mobile offerings are great, I have both an AMD Turion mobile unit and a centrino, love them both, hard to tell the difference as far as eye speed. Competition is great and it makes companies one up another and hopefully drop prices on the previous models. I have some data concerning core duo's power consumption versus prior models and will post it later on. Thanks for talking.
