The right way to do it is to remove your oil pressure switch and connect a pressure tester/gauge and verify oil pressure.

Since you don't have a tester, you can just replace the oil switch and see if the light goes out.

You can test the wiring and light by removing the wire from the switch and touching it to bare metal on the chassis or engine block while the key is on. The light should turn on and off when touch the wire to ground and then remove it.

How should I go about doing that? I know my sending unit (it's the one wired in near the duel filter on the block right?) is pretty haggard, but I'm not sure why I wouldn't have oil pressure, timing belt is on correctly and I didn't dick with the pump at all.

today i fixed the vacuum leak/emissions leak coming from my throttle body to my evap canister, so i think it is ready for a test.

oil light is still on, not sure why but levels are normal..... hope i have oil pressure.
also inspection light is on but my mechanic said it is fine to smog with that light on.

and of course i need to deal with the shift linkage.

    About damn time!!!

Haha good job dude. I was in a somewhat similar boat, got myself into a project with very little idea how to actually do it. The feeling over a year later when she finally fired up for the first time since I bought the car was surreal.

Someone should start a 'First start-up of your first swap/rebuild/replaced engine video' thread.
