I cant believe someone compared "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to "Stairway". Thats fucking blasphemy. Nirvana were good, but NO WHERE NEAR as good as everyone made/makes them out to be. One of the most overrated bands of all time, IMO. Along with Kiss. But I respect Kiss cuz they are up front about being schtick-y, gimmicky, opportunistic, businessmen. Neither even tie Led Zeps shoes. I dont even like most of Zeps radio hits, I like LOTS of their live shit (not on any CD) where they improvise coherent music for like 20 minutes, THATS musicianship and talent. And Pink Flyd is another one of those bands anything up TO DSOTM especially "Wish You Were Here" and "Meddle" and anything from "Live in Pompeii" is better than "The Wall" to me. Introspective, smart, mind-fuck, get-high-to, or-just-relax music. My opinion, though and I know theres TONS of shit that doesnt and never gets played on radio thats just as good. Not just the "commercial" bands.

The pussification of the american male is a huge problem. This like here is a funny, and yet serious rant on that exact topic:

I don't really get into the politics or gun thing on that site, but take this article on its face and it makes some valid points. Men need to be not afraid to be men.

When this is all said and done, i could really care less about all of this. Its an interesting discussion though, and since i don't associate with anyone who is "emo" i never really understood why people go out of their way to do it. To me it seems like it takes a lot of effort (go buy all the different clothes, get trendy tatoos, dye your hair, ect. ect). The only thing that really gets me about it is this - its not me with the problem, its the emo kid. Because i wear a polo shirt and jeans and flip flops and drive my bmw (e30), i don't understand their pain? I'm not "hard"? that doesn't make shit for sense. I listen to music ON VINYL. i bet 99% of these punks don't even own a record player, much less records - so its not about truly appreciating the music, its about something totally unrelated. These dudes point the finger at someone who is normally dressed (and this has to be a huge thing to them, since they go out of their way to make their appearence reflect their "pain") and making something out of their lives, then insert some label about them or their lifestyle, and then go back to listening to their limp dick sad bastard music and pissing on each other while whining about how bad their lives are. that, to me, is something that i do not want to be associated with.

Death Cab for Cutie is one of my favorite bands, and every time I tell someone I like them, all I get is "Oh my god, they're so emo. Are you emo?" They can be a little whiny sometimes, but their music is awesome.

The thing that REALLY pisses me off is how so much good hardcore is getting thrown into the emo scene. About a year ago, I went to see The Dillinger Escape Plan and ZAO, and almost the entire show was 15 and 16 year old high school kids, the majority of them girls, and almost ALL of them were wearing the same Coheed and Cambria hoddie from the show the week before, and they all looked EXACTLY the same. I wanted to kill every one of them. For those of you that have heard ZAO, or for that matter, The Dillinger Escape Plan, you'd know that those 2 bands are the farthest thing from emo there is. But there all these mopey little fucks were. Every time the pit got going really good, all these whiny little bastards would start throwing a fit because they were getting bumped into.
Pretty much everything Josh said in this thread is exactly what I was going to say. Its also a big reason why I dont bother going to shows that huge bands are playing at. The little waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles bitch kids with huge baggy black pants with chains hanging from them and spiked black hair with red tips and shit like that ruin it all. They cry when they get hit when they are standing close to the pit, just like Josh said.
Another thing about going to big shows, push pits are the most retarded fucking thing in the world. Kids leave shows thinking they are big and bad and "moshed" all night when all they did was push eachother.
                    Woopdie-fuckin-doo.
I love going to small local shows of awesome hardcore/metalcore bands and having a good time in the pit two stepping, going nuts during breakdowns and chanting during sick chants. To me theres not alot of things that are more fun than that.
Now I'll admit one thing, If you saw me in person you'd prolly think I was emo. I've got semi-long hair, its black (but natural black..well really its dark brown but its pretty much black), and "geeky" glasses.

Thats about all I have to say.
Im pretty sure that was my first big post on these forums in awhile.

this thread is like divide an conquer i swear, and the same goes with the topic of drifting. No one will ever convince the other side of their point of view. From my stand point i think the "emo" everyone hates are the posers, ones who think they have to cry all the time and look like girls because that's the way they have to be to be emo. no one mentioned Rocky Vatolato, or even Bright Eyes(Conner Oburst) he/them is emo but he doesn't sing about not getting waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles. I hate it out everyone labels everything, some music just can't be labeled. DRIFTING IS THE SHIZNITS!!!

I have a 25 year old, $50 record player hooked up to average quality speakers, and a $1500 sound system in my e30. I prefer listening to the record player. To name a few vinyls I have... "Dark Side of the Moon", "Legend" (Marley), every Sublime album, and a Lynyrd Skynrd album with Freebird and Alabama.

Nothing in the world is better than listening to "Us and Them" the way it was meant to sound. Complete bliss.

Emo sucks. Listen to some real music, not a bunch of super queer kids throwing a few chords together and yelling really loud about getting blue balls.

Nirvana isn't emo and no they aren't as good as Zeppelin but in terms of musical influence they had just as much if not more. Every alternative rock band today (not emo), was influenced by Nirvana.
