In a general sense, yes, they are here to protect and serve, but the militarization of the police is out of control and the general attitude of the police is "us vs them". They will lie to you and abuse their authority if you even annoy them. Even more so if you are asserting your rights. This has got to change. Kudos to this kid for pushing back.

That's right. Why can't you assert your rights without the police trying to "teach you a lesson"? I call that unprofessional. The thin blue line protects its own to the point that the bad apples spoil the whole barrel. I hope that more people assert their rights in this manner, the police aren't going to do the right thing without pressure from the public.

This is actually what it is all about, thanks for posting. If you didn't read this, please get out of this thread.

It's an article regarding the militarization of the police force in this country and the unsettling results.

It doesn't talk about this case or his rights. It's showing how this is a systemic problem around the country, a problem with the institution and how little people seem to care about it.

That wasn't directed at you. It was directed at other posts. I clicked on your link, got @ 10 pop ups, then saw how long it was and killed the window. I don't have that kind of time or the attention span to read that thing man!
Also, if people today would stop acting like total assholes to each other, maybe there wouldn't be a reason to ratchet up the way police deal with them. There is a serious problem with society today, and for sure doesn't start with our peace officers.
Case in point: I don't act like an asshole, no one with authority messes with me.... Fact.

I generally have a pretty good opinion of POs, although I mostly deal with the German and Swiss ones. All were very polite and usually let me go quick. I'm a bit on the fence w/ Swiss border police because they see my Cabrio as a druggie car, they've stopped me 6 times in the vert, 0 times in my 190E while using them about 50/50... the vert's been searched twice, but only superficially.
Btw: They use shoes on their dogs as to not scratch your car... I like that.

As for the video posted: Vid #2 is tragic and certainly a devastating mistake by the police, the first vid looks like the "right" kind of people met each other... a wise-ass kid and a cop who obviously felt insecure. In the end, I hope they both learned their lesson, but that's probably not the case.

From what I've heard about most European cops most of them seem really chill, maybe it's because there crime rate is lower or because people actually know how to drive

I agree with you some cops are bad some do infringe but in this case no and in most cases they dont. That kid is an idiot. And so are you, you are stuck in this mind set that I'm stupid because I don't think the law is out to take away our rights and I believe most cops are trying to help. Please just shut up you sound like a typical punk ass cop hating wanna be and you are an embarassment to the American people, the officers in this video are only trying to help keep the roads safe and you act like that's a bad thing? C'mon man you can't be that blind. Open your eyes and put yourself in a cops shoes

I'm the brainwashed one? Because I refuse to let constitutional rights get taken away from me by a sneaky government? Oh, okay, makes sense.

I don't agree with the masses I formulate my own educated opinion based on research and credible sources.

Please explain to me how I am an embarrassment to the American people by trying to protect the ideals on which this country was formed?

The bottom line is, however sketchy and weird the kid was, HE HAS RIGHTS as a US citizen. You cannot take away these rights to 'keep roads safe'. Rights exist for a reason. Let's see how you feel about police when you get one who screams in your face and demands to search your car.

I think it also has to do with the fact that noone is armed at the wheel.
But even when I lived in MI, the few encounters I had with the local PD were great, really... and when our home alarm system went off once, they were there within 3-4 minutes. I wasn't in any traffic stops though, so I can't judge that.

Its really kind of hard to tell these days if someone is filming for the sole intention of trying to find trouble. Nowadays more and more people are driving around with cameras but given the location of this guys camera (on the pass seat) I do believe he went out with the intention of getting the reaction from the police that got. Besides that I don't think he did anything wrong and the cops were being dicks BUT I do understand the cops have a hard job to do and keeping us all safe. I have had my run ins with the police but I try to make it as painless as possible for me for the reason that I don't need to waste my time to prove anything to anyone. I have nothing to hide but yet I choose to comply with the police as long as I'm being treated as I'm treating them, with respect.

Life is too short to argue with people. If I was going to argue what I thought was right on every occasion I come across I felt was wrong I would spend most of my life arguing...and would probably post on this thread more than once and keep arguing with you fellas.

I do like the reading material, Good luck.

I think the problem is that basically everything can be considered "shifty" by any cop at any time.

For instance, the story about the fake drug check points they setup in Ohio so they could see who acted "shifty" then pull them over.

One gentleman who was pulled over had done nothing more than to stop on the side of the road to check his directions (after driving past the sign, so he was OBVIOUSLY ditching drugs, or doing something else illegal), he then gets pulled over and searched.

I don't know if 325ix will come in this thread or not. But, the same sort of shit happened to him. He bought a car in San Diego and was driving it back to New Mexico, through Arizona. Of course it didn't have tags as he had just bought it.

So, during this trip, as he is driving through AZ with his dad, they pull over at some random exit to switch drivers. A little while after getting back on the freeway they are pulled over by a DEA agent who claims he thought they were running drugs because they pulled off to the side of the road and didn't have tags. He proceeds to berate them, telling them he could have his car impounded for lack of registration. He slaps them with a big fine instead, even after they show him the bill of sale, and tells them they need to tow it the rest of the way.

He gets back to NM after spending money on a Uhaul truck and trailer only to find out that this piece of shit DEA Agent didn't even know the laws of his own fuckin' state. Turns out you have a certain amount of time (I can't recall what it is exactly, but more than 24 hours) to get your car registered after you have bought it, with a bill of sale in hand. Of course, being out of state it would be more expensive to fight the BS ticket than to just pay it...

                                Fuck that shit, man.
