So this is an honest and serious question. GMOs are just hyper-bred, aren't they? I mean, carrots are technically GMOs because they used to be mostly purple, but the orange varieties were bred in and replaced the purple ones. It's like any other technology; it only becomes evil when it's used for evil. GMOs have done a lot of helpful things for our food too, from the convenient (seedless grapes for example) to the safer (pest-resistant plants). Am I missing that much?

the term "GMO" is misleading. All of the food we eat has technically been genetically modified over the last thousands of years by our selective farming practices, but "GMO" food should be more accurately called "transgenic", which is the practice of transferring genes from one species to another in a lab. Scientists are playing with the genetic make-up of food without really knowing the long term consequences. I'm not for or against them because I don't know the long term impact of transgenic plants. Some say it will be the only way to feed the growing population and they may be right. Only time will tell.

actual chicken itself contains less fat than other supermarket foods but chicken from the grocery store or your average restaurant is much worse than beef when it comes to hormones and other shit pumped into the animal to make the breast meat big and fat and marketable.

it is generally accepted that eating chicken and the hormones in the meat is the reason why kids today reach puberty in 1st or second grade instead of 6th or 7th like they used to.

other than less fat, i believe poultry is much worse for you now days than any other type of supermarket meat.

Im sure everyone would like to eat healthy food! but the thing is, for most its impossible. the economy keeps people poor enough where they cant buy land to be self sufficent (which would be what i would like to do), or to buy the "Organic" food that is always more expensive, and most of the time is total BS.$ its all part of corp. USA. get us sick on shitty food, go to big hospitals for heart bypasses and cancer treatment$$, then when we cant wipe or own ass our kids ship us off to homes where more money goes to the same hands$$$...its shitty. :/

This is a cop out. You can eat healthy food affordably, but it would require more prep work, planning and time than going through the drive-thru, and quality meat would be more of a luxury food eaten sparingly on a poor mans diet. Most people eat shitty convenience food because its convenient and cheap, but you don't have to, even if you're poor.

              there's arsenic in apples/applejuice too. :p

didn't watch the video, but I'm sure based on the source it's a little misleading.

that's why I don't buy those bags of giant chicken breasts at Costco - you know the ones, they're about the size of a turkey! WTF? no way those are natural..

don't actually eat a whole lot of red meat here. mostly turkey or chicken. we eat almost zero frozen or boxed food. it's not that hard - but finding all natural food? good luck. I agree it's not realistic for everyone though. eating garbage is cheap, unfortunately.

I was just thinking about this yesterday - how funny it is that people believe growing your own food is a "new" hippy thing. Uhm.. that's how everyone lived before the last ~30-40 years! My grandfather always had his own garden. actually, now that I think about it - they weren't vegetarians, but they didn't really eat that much meat. because it's expensive.. in all aspects!

and fast food - yuck. the more you eat home made food, the less and less appealing fast food becomes.

yeah, pretty much. he grew up on a farm during the depression. that's why I never believed the 2008 financial crisis was a depression. Still way too many people who can afford to eat out, shop for junk at the mall, and drive giant 12mpg SUVs.

not really have u been to the grocery store with only $50 for 2weeks of food to buy? you cannot buy that many healthy things. all the organic stuff is a minimum of 50c more a pound and the good eggs and milk are a bit more(except in the last couple months someone started selling eggs for cheap around here) i hate eating fast food i probably only eat it once or twice a month, i guess it could be easier in a big city but i only have a von's and a railey's.

More on this from more creditable sources (NOT WhyDon'tYouTryThis.com lol):

What are your legal rights to have an abortion, get a prescription for birth control, or get a vasectomy or other sterilization surgery? They pretty much all say the exact same thing. The arsenic was coming from a drug they USED TO FEED the chickens called Roxarsone, made by Pfizer. They pulled the drug from the shelves as of June 2011 (when the article was written, so possibly before that).

Most levels were below the 2000 PPB approved tolerance, but some were as high as 2900 PPB it says. That's about 1 drops worth in 72 16oz glasses of water, so not much. This was also far less than the levels found in rice and apple juice.

So basically, yes, they found arsenic in chicken, but in most cases it was below the considered level of safety and is no longer in chicken because the source of the arsenic was pulled from shelves over 2 years ago.

You can take your tin-foil hat off now.

I'm going to go down a big glass of Applejuice, eat some rice cakes, and then wash it down with dihydrogen monoxide. Then I'm going to go read some Glen Beck.
