How many people smoke pot? how many people drink under the age? is that something to hide?....This country was built on some fundementals and bush came along and tossed them right out the window with the patriot act....with this act you can throw checks and balances right out the window....they can search any of your property without you knowing it along with your records. They don't need any suspicion to do so... Even the websites we go to can be tracked...

As for the katrina thing....yea the people had enough time to get out...but If you live down there with your kids, parents, and everything you own why the hell would you leave? you've been through alot of other hurricanes, and heard the news before (nothing new) But one thing you don't have is a vehicle. how are you gonna leave? walk with your parents who are 70+ years old?

The government just didn't prepare for the catastrophy that they should have been aware of. (cause they had priorities in other countries) And how long did it take for them to get their shit together? a week? Once they got their shit together it took them 24-48 hours to get everyone out safely...they could have acted quicker and saved alot more lives then they did.

When the news says, "There's a hurricane coming, and it's huge." That doesn't mean stay at home and wait for your home to float away then blame the president for not protecting the house.
People are blaming Bush for many legitimate reasons. He cut all the funding for strengthening the levees and put the money towards the war. He appointed one of his cronies, a man who was a rodeo announcer and had no goverment experience, as the head of FEMA. Then, the day after the hurricane, hes hopping around the country speaking about his bullshit social security plan when he should have been saving lives. I have been to New Orleans and seen the devastation first hand. People who had very little before the hurricane now have nothing. People who had a lot before the hurriance now have nothing. The place looks like a war zone and very little has been done about it, even 7 months after the fact.

And also expect someone else to pull them up rather than standing up on their own two feet.
I think that goes for a pretty good portion of this country, really.

Do you understand what these people have gone through? Some of them have lost EVERYTHING. President Bush cuts funding to levees, hurricane Katrina happens, insurance companies wont pay up. What the fuck else do you expect them to do?

Besides your other valid points, you forgot that Bush's do-nothing policy on global warming is only going to increase the number of hurricanes in the Gulf Coast in the coming years.

              I couldn't disagree more....

"Experts believe the latest record hurricane season was part of a cycle where periods of relative calm alternate with decades of intense activity. "

There are many disputes regarding the abnormal year..... It has only been within the past 50 years that we have had good tools to track and monitor hurricanes. Sure, there were sailors before that time reporting hurricanes. So with that in mind we can safely say 100 years worth of data (for what its worth)... But before that time, we don't have much to work with.

So then the first time we have an abnormally high hurricane season, and "talks" of global warming, everybody and their brother jumps to conclusions. Sure, if this pattern continues for another 10 years, then we should be worried. But how can we predict climate changes when we've only been living and tracking data for a small percentile of earth's life??? (depending on what theory you believe)

I think we need to monitor and research before we begin jumping to conclusions (which many companies have already begun).

              Just my humble opinion.

...... this is another whole topic, and sorry for getting off topic...

No shit. Do you think Bush can prevent hurricanes h0lmes?

Any area that is hit by a major hurricane will take years to recover, and New Orleans is no different. I see FL get hit by hurricane after hurricane and you don't hear shit from us because we are used to it. The faces of cities are ever-changing by hurricane damage. I was out of school for 2 weeks last semester after Wilma and there are some areas that still haven't been fixed/recovered, but its just a part of life and nobody even thinks anything of it.

No one can prevent a hurricane, however, a lot of lives would have been saved if levee funding hadn't been cut and if a competent person were running FEMA, and the entire government for that matter.

                      Come now!

Our government would never intentionally lie to us. They would never sacrifice innocent lives to further their own agenda. Nobody will ever again be able to repeat a 911 type scenario now that we have Homeland Defense and with Fema being a part of it, we'll be kicking natural disaster ass too.

I don't disagree with you. I never said this year's hurricane totals had anything to do with global warming. What I was trying to say is that over the coming years, if nothing is done, the storms could strengthen due to the warming water in the Gulf Coast (and yes, every year, the water temperatures are rising in the Gulf Coast).

And yes, sorry about getting off topic.

They never had anything to start with!

I attack half of you! The carnage....

First off, let me say that in my eyes...you are all of equal worth and value. You are all good people. Your ideas are worthwhile. I care about you...(fade into Rammstein at max volume!!)

Louisiana is a census black hole. The people of Louisiana do not participate well in the census, and thus the true population is/ has been unknown. (read - lots of people not on the radar) In certain areas, children are born at home, go to school, etc. and never having a birth certificate. So, if little Jamal ended up taking a 5.56 round to the melon while obtaining the obligatory Plasma Screen Survival Ration, no one would know. Katrina cover up I refered to had nothing to do with FEMA, Bush, DHS, or that stuff. I was hinting at the stated number of casualties, and the manner of their getting dead. While there, I watched the news on my cell phone, looked around me, and the two did not remotely resemble each other.

Global Warming>AIDS>Killer bees>Nuclear Winter>Legionaires Disease> (insert fav cause du jour here) None of these things has produced the catastrophy that was predicted, alto funding for research and lobbist poured in. Soft science.

                              Let's get specific. Nothing personal.

White folks - Fema paid for their hotels. Black folk - Into the shelter you go. Red cross = SUCK.

JARVIS- you are from MA. You keep electing Kennedy. Shut-up. Now.:-)

hOlmes - " I have been to New Orleans"... Were you carrying a gun? Were you volunteering to make changes? Or just looking at tits, drinking, and spinning theories? Charlie Sheen should have a new opinion to issue to you soon.

Fife - Hey, dumbass, some didn't have cars to leave, and those who did could not get fuel. Hell, WE couldn't get fuel. And we had guns!

eurostyl - Sell your beemer- Carpool with Ed Begley in his hybrid. you=road head.

abepark- "Bush doesn't have to be checked to listen in on international conversations".... Patriot act deal with DOMESTIC stuff...your ignorance makes me smile. Keep it up! Read those blogs!!

Wikipedia - Now there is the Standard for Truth!! If I disagree with Wiki, can we just pull the plug?

rwh..Digital...nkell..eurospeed... When the next one comes, you can come over, we will toast yummy beef patties from the MRE stockpile, while cleaning the guns!!!

And, as a Red State gun totin' yahoo, I really don't like the Patriot Act.
It is too invasive, to secret, and vitally necessary at this point in time/history.

Somebody, please, fucking read the AUMF before you spout "illegal war!!"
The real AUMF, as passed by Congress, not the wiki or google bullshit.

Hey, just looked where everybody was from. You nor'easters who luv the liberal BS certainly don't have a heart when people need help. Guess the ideology only works when you can tell others how to live. They do blame others, cause so does the entire Howard Dean machine!!

PS...How many people drown when their raft sinks while LEAVING america?
