My New To Me 1986 Toyota SR5 4x4

I just picked this truck up today, and am really happy with it. 5 speed with the 22re engine and the SR5 package.
Cosmetically it needs a tad bit of love, but mechanically it seams really solid. The only thing that doesn't work right is the drivers side window. It just does not roll up very. You can get it up if you push up on the window while cranking. Other wise the crank just slips and make a clunking sound. Not a big deal.
I have heard its a good idea to put an aftermarket temperature gauge in, a the oem one is not accurate. Worth my time and money?
No big plans on mods. Want to spend my money on my e30, and use this as a DD/work truck. Just a newer radio with blue tooth, and some speakers. Seat covers and all weather floor mats are needed as well.
I think its sweet. Cant wait till the first time I get to use the 4x4.

First mod is SHUT THE FUCK UP BUZZER! ;)

Oh and there was a DeLorean at the smog shop. Not sure what its story is other then it wont run correctly and wont pass smog.

Dude nice I love the old Toyota's. 22re is a great engine. If I didn't get an e30 i probably woulda got a 4runner. That car will take care if you if you treat it with love!

Ahh the west coast. Where 80s toyotas never rust.

      Nice truck.

Anyone have any advice on things I should look into changing or watching out for? I am really new to trucks, and Toyotas in general.
Just ordered a nice Alpine head unit and dash speakers, along with some seat covers and floor mats. Should spruce things up nicely.

I wish these still existed in this shape around here, and the US box is dead sexy compared to the Canadian box. I wanted one so badly for so long...it was one of the vehicles that I never got that I still regret. nice Pick-up OP grats and enjoy!

                Toyo pickup FTW! :)
                Have fun with it!

Try replacing the temp sender. Its like $7 from autozone. The 22re is a great engine. The timing chain guides are a weak point on the 22re. Cold start injector can cause some issues. Also be sure to adjust those valves! Very similar to adjusting them on an m20.

Just took my 91 mudding with my redneck friends earlier today. I've had mine for about 5 months and drove the shit out of it everyday. I invested $250 in PM items and changed the oil, that's it. The thing is a tank.

Yeah I read the temp sender goes out a lot. There is a write up on YotaTech about soldering a wire on the gauge to fix the problem. Seams like a lot of people just install an aftermarket gauge.
I have to do an oil change in a few weeks so I guess ill check the valves then. Already ordered the Haynes manual.

I have an '89 2WD regular cab. It's about to tick over 300k miles. As stated, timing guides wear out and these engines have been known to blow a head gasket. My buddy's did and so did mine. It went out at 258k and it wasn't bc it overheated. The water jackets had eroded so bad that it finally blew the gasket. Ended up buying a used head, decked it and installed it. Truck has MSPNP2, Pacesetter headers, MAF delete, an unbelievable 1100W 8 speaker 3 amp stereo (I have a car stereo obsession), and air bags on rear suspension that I inflate when I tow or have a heavy load. These trucks are bulletproof and I love mine. Other than the aforementioned items, my truck looks like a total beater (needs paint but has no rust). Most economical vehicle I've ever owned. Enjoy!

Any pictures of your speaker locations? I want to get more then two speakers in the cab, but want to see where other people located theres, and what sizes they went with. I dont think I will be happy with two 4" 2 way speakers for very long.

It's funny you got that truck which is the similar to Marty McFlys in Back to the Future...then you also post a picture of the Delorean. That thing is only missing the flux capacitor...lol

I can get pics when I'm home Mon. I have component 4" in stock location with tweets on A post. 6” mids in front part of door cards and two 10" shallow mount subs loaded in enclosures behind the bench seat. It's a reg cab so you have even more room. All three amps are under the bench seat.
