my ex dd'd a base impreza and a forester with over a quarter million on each and more than a few owners. Those two were tanks and weren't without a few dings and knocks. afaik they get "decent to good" mileage and they're comfy and great in winter, as i see you're from the northeast.

Opinions on 02-06 WRX's? I'm thinking about picking up another car and I really like the Saab 9-2x and the same gen WRX wagons.

^ 40k on my 2011 optima with no issues. Oil changes and a set of winter tires is all I have done. Plus can't be the 10 year 100k warranty. You can find a leftover for around 18k new around here currently.

Personally, I have had great reliability with Subaru. My 2010 legacy has four doors, a big boot, and never gets me below 31mpg (and uses regular fuel, so no springing for premium). I put over 24k miles on the car every year and haven't had a single mechanical or electrical issue and I'm at 68k. A super comfortable and roomy interior as well. No useless frills.

You can get a used 2010+ legacy under 18k.

The Mazda skyactiv stuff seems really cool, but I've had two coworkers/friends have their new skyactiv cars take a crap on them. Could just be coincidence. Mazda did a good job repairing the cars however and gave them decent complimentary rides. That being said some of the new models look great and the interiors feel better than the new VWs.

Hyundai and KIA have some cool cars with good economy and excellent warranties. Heard only good things about the newer models.

The new focus looks quite decent has good economy and a great warranty. Again good reviews from most people I've talked to that own one.

Just personal experiences.

How about a Honda Fit, or if you don't need four doors/seats you might consider a manual hardtop Miata. Or perhaps just get a 08+ TDI wagon as MkIVs are something to avoid after 100k miles.

I have a Skyactiv as a DD, mileage is amazing, creature comforts galore.

do recommend.

my Ex had a skyactiv, I'm looking for a manual wagon now. She pretty much got the same mileage as I did in my diesel.
