Just saying, chances are pretty good. I'll have shop backing with this one.

Should be done by Summer, or sooner, if I can get the car. :???:

Listen. I have a lot of experience with Spridgets and Spridget drivetrains. Don't to this to yourself. Nobody expects a small British sports car to be comfortable or reliable, and these were the absolute bottom of the barrel. I have plenty of stories of guys fighting to keep new ones on the road, let alone one that's been sitting and needs a complete, tear-down rebuild. Because that one does, no matter what you may think. At the end of it, you'll have a not-that-valuable, not-that-comfortable, not-that-reliable/durable car. Leaky as well (oil, water, and soft top). Engine swaps are an option, but you'll have to stay small. The things weigh almost nothing so it isn't hard to seriously throw off the weight distribution. My suggestions would be: late-model Lotus Elan, late-model Spitfire, TR6, MGBGT.

I daily drove my MGB-GT for several years, including in the snow. They can be as reliable as any other car. The engines and trans are pretty bullet proof honestly, if kept up, like any car.

Did the same thing with my Spitfire 1500.

I daily drove it for a while, I consider it done. The rest of the truck is getting attention. Transfer case took a dump, kinda.

Sprite wouldn't be a daily driver really, but still with an m42 it'd be a blast. All the normal English cars just don't appeal to me like the very small ones. Although if it was an mgb or spitfire or tr6 I'd probably be making the same thread.

How did i miss this? What year is your classic? By the shock mount in the picture, iirc, it looks like an early, non v8 model. It's been a few years since I left land rover though, so I am fairly rusty.

How is fuel economy with the BMW power plant? I love everything about rr classics except the thirst of rovers inefficient v8's.

Another thing to keep in mind are the sadists who designed these cars. Absolutely nothing is assembled with convenience or ease-of-access in mind. For that reason, the Spitfire is my favorite of the bunch. Still not a pleasure, but the engine "bay" especially is ridiculously accessible. It was like a dream come true when I started working on the E30 and things actually made sense, and the hardware had standardized sizes, and things were designed to come apart and go together without destroying themselves.

Any specifics/precedent on the M42 swap? Which trans/diff is used?

I find my MGB way easier to work on than any other car. Much simpler, much more open, etc.

It's a 93 lwb with coil spring conversion. Engine does great. I kinda want a rover v8 but this this is so great because I don't have to work on it weekends to drive to work during the week, most weeks

I'll chime in as I had a 1970 midget to restore and a 74 parts car that I sold off due to the time involved vs the value of the finished project.
First off, have you sat in one, they are extremely tight with the window rolled up?
Rust is a huge issue on a spridget, both of mine had rust in all the popular areas including the inner and outer rocker panels, floor pans, lower a and b pillars lower quarter panels, battery tray, etc.
Hell I'm convinced they left the factory with rust hiding in them.
If you really want an MG I would start with a chrome bumper MGB,it will be worth way more and it is sized more appropriate for adult humans to drive.
