Don't be sucked in ... late model sprites are unloved - it's the early ones that are cherished.

Perhaps if cheap, buy it for parts, and, if you must have one, search around for the best, rust free early example you can find - they are still dirt cheap.

Check my sig ... the old English car force is strong with me... spend wisely (both $$'s and time)

I never buy cars to sell, only to enjoy. Value isn't important to me. Already putting together an M42 swap with my friend.

Apparently it is not really for sale (sentimental value) but the guy lacks the funds/initiative to pursue a resto. Hopefully he will let it go, since it's obviously been sitting a long time, and Sprites aren't really worth much. Some people need to realize when they are not going to do something with a car and let it go to someone who has the means.

Not to derail your thread, but this dude sounds like my dad. He's a Volvo hoarder with big plans for all of them. With him, I've found that shaming him beyond what's appropriate for the father/son relationship is all that works to get him to let things go. Maybe you can try this tact with this guy.

I'm like that. Recently I found myself unloading cars. Can't own them all. There are too many cool cars I want to add to the list I can tell my children and grand-children I wish I still had.

^ I agree. My policy is never to have more than three at a time. Otherwise, one just sits and rots, unless you can employ a full time mechanic.

Exactly. I hit a cap on insuring and registering cars at like 5. Realized I can save so much money enjoying and selling, buy, enjoy, sell, etc rather than trying to maintain a fleet all at once.

I'm considering letting the e30 v8 car go. I've lost interest, to be honest. Need something fresh to sink my teeth into.

I feel for you. My dad doesn't do it with cars, but he has so much fucking junk that he SWEARS he needs. I can't get my head around it.

Must be an east coast thing. My pops is outside Philly. The things I said to him to obtain the Volvo 940 wagon that's in my garage...I still shudder.

Must be... I'm outside Philly lol. I've had to be pretty harsh with him too. He's finally realized his problem, but hasn't actually gotten rid of anything... yet.

So, this thing is crazy good condition for a derelict, 45 (at least) year old English sports car.

It's almost certainly a MK4 by the presence of the folding top mechanism. Last time it was registered was 1986, by the plates.

Body looks great. Some surface scratches, well, many, but doesn't appear to be any real damage or rust. Interior is all there, albeit could use a good cleaning, but it's there. May even be a tonneau cover in the boot.

                      God I'm so terrible.

                      Anyone want a M60/6 e30 swap-in-progress?

The rust and electrical systems are a stereotype, not fact, much like how all BMW drivers are pricks. If properly maintained (like any other car), there is nothing wrong with the cars in either case. The problem comes from owners letting the top get shredded, letting a bunch of water in, and bam, tons of rust and corroded electrical connections. The metal they used back them was a lot thicker than modern day cars, so they really are pretty sturdy cars.

And in case you didn't know, a Sprite is the same as an MG Midget, just different badging.

Yes, I've been eyeballing your M42 thread.

Hopefully this guy will come up off of it. Parts look so cheap looking through Moss and Victoria's sites. New fuel tank for under $200? I'm game.

We'll see. I'm so stoked about it, if I can get it. I've always wanted a British sports car.

Where should I look for the rust? Typical places, same as BMWs? Looks pretty rust free, really rust free actually, but I'm going off of pics from a friend, no digging around in the car either.
