Listen. I have a lot of experience with Spridgets and Spridget drivetrains. Don't to this to yourself. Nobody expects a small British sports car to be comfortable or reliable, and these were the absolute bottom of the barrel. I have plenty of stories of guys fighting to keep new ones on the road, let alone one that's been sitting and needs a complete, tear-down rebuild. Because that one does, no matter what you may think. At the end of it, you'll have a not-that-valuable, not-that-comfortable, not-that-reliable/durable car. Leaky as well (oil, water, and soft top). Engine swaps are an option, but you'll have to stay small. The things weigh almost nothing so it isn't hard to seriously throw off the weight distribution. My suggestions would be: late-model Lotus Elan, late-model Spitfire, TR6, MGBGT.Interested in vintage cars? Ever thought about racing one? Take that money, throw it into savings.
Car costs add up, especially projects you know 'dis. Just like pets, I wouldn't bring any more in.Comment

This is what I want to hear. Encouragement.
Found out you can put a BMW K series bike head on an A series engine.
K100/1100 head on A series
But thinking of just building an M42 since nobody does that and M42s are so damn cheap.
Would look great sitting next to my BMW powered Rover.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

No, sells parts to put the head from a BMW motorcycle (with an engine based off a Peugeot) onto an "A" series engine, which was used in most everything BL produced, and is what the Nissan/Datsun "A" series engine is based off of (actually BL and Nissan shared the rights, but Nissan improved the design, etc).
Basically you're taking a single cam, pushrod engine and putting a DOHC, crossflow head on it, 8 or 16 valve depending on what the head came off of, a K100 or a K1100.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

You guys consider which drivetrain you would be using after this (assuming you're serious)? I can just about guarantee that anything north of 150bhp will start breaking halfshafts, frying brakes, and potentially sending transmission retaining springs and detente balls (curse them!) flying everywhere.Interested in vintage cars? Hmmm. Well in that case, the bike motor of choice might be something like an FZ1 or CBR1100. Maybe a first gen R1 or ZX-12. Less screamy, more torque. You guys consider which drivetrain you would be using after this (assuming you're serious)? But how badass would an RSV4 motor be? V-4, 1-Liter, and 14,000 RPM.Comment
