also the lack of a GPU makes it look alot cleaner not having to run a six pin connector. if u have a PSU wit the cord coming out on the far side of your case u can flip it over, thats what i did with mine and it helps alot. How the fuck do you manage to tuck those wires so cleanly? My rig is goddamn messy! BTW is that a Fractal Design case? If so, I may have the same exact one!
Haven't done any OC'ing in a while so I can't really say much about this. I am running an i5 3570k on a asus p8z77-v lk mobo. I OC'd it sometime ago and I think i went to 4.1ghz maxing out at around 80c on a stock heatsink and fan.Comment

I used to be big into this scene 10 years ago. I swapped out the clock crystals on an old Pentium2 dual-CPU server motherboard and modified a couple adapters that could run dual peltier cooled P3s at double their stock speed (this was back in the days when CPUs still came in slot or socket packaging). ran the AGP bus at 133mhz, which my Voodoo5 didn't care about in the least.. good times!
these days I don't really see the point, computers are dirt cheap these days and virtually all are very fast. this laptop is like 6 years old and it's not slow. if I need a high end workstation I go use my 8 core xeon machine with 32gb of ram at work. :p
also I just don't have time. I do have two boys though so they're going to learn how to build their own machine. I think once my oldest is 5-6 he'll be old enough to teach.Comment

Pretty limited to what I can mod on a pavilion dv6 notebook.
I did swap out the entire system board for Radeon 6550m. Since the graphics cards are BGA soldered into the boards. Was a nice step up from the 6370m with twice the dedicated memory, 60% higher pixel rate, 320 more shading units
Runs Crysis on medium and FEAR2 and 3 on medium-high.

Back up and running!
Oh, and I love Windows 8.1. I sacrificed the the data on my 2tb SSHD for the better good.
I'm not going to overclock until the new motherboard is burned in a bit... But I ran a prime95 stress test for 15 minutes or so and I'm sitting right at 38*C. Plenty of room for improvement.
Sad thing is, that BF4 is taking longer to download than Windows took to install. No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.Comment

I use to edit on a dual xeon IBM workstation running WinNT. Loved that box. I would edit 10 hours a day, and keep it on for renders each night....all without rebooting for a week at a time. Stable as could be. Would only crash when if you unplugged the external SCSI array by accident.
It use to be that software was so resource hungry, that each new OS/software release/upgrade, if you wanted to run it, would require an system upgrade. Now-a-days....not so much. Unless you're doing CAD and/or video editing like I am.
PC gaming is a hobby. I get it. Personally, I think it's a total waist of time....unless it's old school Counter Strike, then I'll snipe your terrorist ass :)
But it's just amazing how PC gamers fall for all the marketing BS. As if more FPS are going to make you a better gamer. And secondly....stop playing games. Learn some code or something. Buy an arduino, or a Raspberry Pi. Go build something.
No one on their death bed ever said "I wish I had that faster video card, I would have really pwned some noobs"....
Oh, and yes, get off my lawn....Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment

Wow man you are quite judgemental.
You think you know the thought process of every person and why they do things.
Yea, I want smoother performance because FPS will make me better. That's it.
Counterstrike is still one of my favorite games to go back to, but ANY system will play that so it's good and reliable.
Build something, like a functioning gaming PC? Or maybe reading a book on Python? How about practicing my guitar more because it seems to calm my 2 month daughter and it's a nice bonding experience?Originally posted by George Gravesstop playing games. Learn some code or something. Don't think that because I waste some of my time fragging noobs on my system that I waste all of my time you conceited prick. No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.Comment

Who is claiming it'll make them a better gamer in this thread? People want a better overall experience, they don't want to be playing Battlefield at a resolution that makes it look as pixelated as CS. I play BF4 at 60fps on a 1440p Dell all the time. There's nothing gimmicky about it, it's damn pleasing to the eye and makes for a better experience than playing it with a lesser rig.PC gaming is a hobby. I get it. Let's take a step back ....That's not building. That's assembling. Don't pat yourself on the back for something you didn't create. By that logic, all Ikea shoppers are master cabinet makers.
That's more like it. Nice!
That's a little harsh. But yea. I see why you would say that. Sorry....I was making a general statement - not to you. My bad. My point is....do more in the real world. And who cares about facebook, gaming FPS, or blah, blah, blah...You know what I was getting at. Right?Last edited by george graves; 03-02-2014, 04:30 AM.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment

I get what you mean but you come off a little too eager to say it. This is a thread about a hobby, not unlike the cars that this forum is based off of. Just because a thread is made about gaming computers does not insinuate that all involved are 500lb 35 year olds asking their mom to make hotpovkets for their friends at a basement lan party.
It doesn't matter what your into, because an outsider will always see it as a waste of time in their eyes. It doesn't mean that it is right or wrong, just the way it is.
I don't think anyone on their death bed ever thinks about any of the material objects they wasted time on. I have a feeling final thoughts are more about actions and how you treated those around you.
On that note, I apologize for the remark I made. I admit I took your post too personally and lost my cool. That was my bad and I am sorry. No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.Comment
