Join the military and get USAA, haha! In all seriousness, their rates are tops but I know my solution may seem extreme.
Am I paying too much for insurance?

I pay about $40/mo for my E30 and about $80 for full cov on the E90
Allstate. I get a discount for being married, online pay and a few other things. Recently when adding my wife to the policy it dropped about $40 a month
I'm sure I could get cheaper. There is some State Farm lady that keeps coming to my door claiming she can do cheaper but I've been with the same agent for so long I don't want to switchYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.Comment

Was at 57/mo for plpd/liability on my iS when I got it at 19, but when they wouldn't insure my ix because it is a grey market car that didn't have an equivalent canadian/us version. Last year was 225/mo for the iS, iX , and full coverage on my mazda 3 hatch. This year it dropped to 166/mo.Originally posted by priapismMy girl don't know shit, but she bakes a mean cupcake.Originally posted by shamesonUsually it's best not to know how much money you have into your e30Comment

2k a year for me in my late 20's. I have 4 cars rite now, full coverage on one and 250 deductable. Speeding ticket for 10 over 2 years ago. The most expensive car is not the 12 optima with full coverage it is the stupid 92 talon.
Having an alarm installed usually drops insurance some, also taking a defensive driving course helps with some companies. If you don't have AAA, get it. Most companies will drop some more if you get it and you can't beat free towing. While your at it get a quote from them. I haven't personally but I hear good things.Comment

When I was 17-18 my insurance was $83 a month through Liberty Mutual (not on a parents plan)
Two years later....
I was paying $180 a month when I was 20 (2010) and had 8 tickets and three driving with out privileges tickets. I didn't have my DL for a year (19-20 years old). I required an SR22. Every 6 months it dropped about $30. Right now I am at $43 a month and am 23. That's liability on my e30.
I've had one at fault accident where I forgot to pull the e brake and my car rolled into an Acura (spring 2013). There was $1500 worth of damage and that didn't increase my rates. I have possibly the worst driving record you could have besides multiple DUI's/at fault accidents.
Have have been ticket free since 2009. I think this is the biggest help in dropping my rates.

I'm 17, no accidents or tickets or anything, and pay $100 a month. Quite alot for me at the moment, but I guess I'm pretty lucky compared to others. It's not bad paint, it's called "patina"Comment

sounds like a bit much. i'm 20 and only pay $45 a month for liability even with a speeding ticket and a couple of other violations.Comment

Register car in parents name with your name on title. Insure in parents name with you as a part time driver of the vehicle. They arent going to send spys around to determine how much time you actually drive the car. Drive it as your daily. Kick your parents the cost of the monthly insurance.
If ever in an accident, you just "happened" to be driving the vehicle at the time.
Sure its some work and some time invested , but doing it this way will save some money. Explain it to your parents by telling them you think its a great financial move and want to protect the bottom line. Perhaps they will see that it is a great way to save. Perhaps not.

Lol. Clean driving record, no accidents, 28. E30 has collision and high liability and I use progressive. I also bundle my other car and renters insurance and have been with them for a number of years.91 318is M50 swapped

Ameriprise - uhh, $30 a month for the E30, a little more for the Subaru. But given what they've paid out protecting me, it will take decades to pay that back at my current rate.Comment

Anyone else getting screwed from American family? My brothers did the whole, register with parents thing, and for some reason my dad keeps explaining to me how they can't do that anymore. Liberty Mutual seems to be sounding good, Ameriprise, and progressive.1991 325i Calypso Coupe

That's what I did, basically told them I just use it to get to school and back. Having it not registered as mine always made minor violations not turn into a huge deal either. "I don't know where he put the front plate or "my dad put this obnoxiously loud exhaust on" I always get a "make sure he gets it fixed before I see you again".Register car in parents name with your name on title.
