So lets see If I can keep this short. It's actually quite long so skip to the video and read the cliffs at the bottom.
I'm hoping someone here can chime in with some experience or insight.
After getting rid of my beloved m60 vert (wish I didn't) I had to get a car that had seating for 5 and 4 doors. I went out and found a 2001 540i Mtech sport.
I bought it off ebay after hearing a bunch of folks swear by them and their awesome deals.
I won the auction for $6,011 + 245 dealer bullshit cock sucking fee. (sorry)
I immediately paid the $500 deposit and contacted the seller as he stated that he could get a decent shipping quote immediately. He told me to give him my information and I did, fast forward 2 days later and nothing from him. I call him again and told him I got my own quotes and they were too expensive. Plus i'd rather see the car and inspect it in person. He agrees and tells me I have 7 days before the auction is relisted.
I buy me and the mrs. a plane ticket from Dallas Tx to Philly PA. He ask me for a copy of my itinerary to see if I'm bullshitting and I send it to him and tell him I will be at his dealership at 10:30am sharp that saturday morning. He says ok and he will have everything ready to go, clean car, and basic maintenance.
Issue #1, before I fly out and when I land in Philly I text him and tell him I'll be there in 30min. We used iChat so It shows he read it the minute I send it. I get to the address he gave me and it's not a dealership at all. He works out of some hole in the wall and the car is nowhere to be found. I call him and he's with another customer selling a truck and he walks up to me. "Oh shit, you're here today? you're really here" I reply, yes I'm here. I text and called you and you said you'd have the car and paperwork ready. "Oh I'm sorry, walk around, go eat and give me 10min."
Fast forward 2hrs later and my car is still not ready. He disappears and I call him again. "Oh yes, I am at carwash my friend. I'll be there 10 min no worries." My friendly reply is you've said that 2hrs ago.
He finally gets the car in and it's a filthy mess. It looks like a wolf has been hibernating in it with all the different colors of hair everywhere. I ask him why the fuck it's so dirty and how could he had been at the carwash. "it's a used car, I'm sorry it's not perfect." Right then I felt I didn't want to do business with him but I didn't fly in for nothing so I looked passed his arrogance.
We test drive it and it pulls like a train. Smooth, quiet, no issues to the untrained eye. I popped the hood and see the oil is old and needs to be changed. He says it's only a few months old but he also agreed that he would change it before I got there. "oh i'm sorry, I'll give discount"
The other issues seem minuscule and part of buying a used car so all in all I feel it's a good car for the money and only needs a good cleaning/detail so it's a go. I drive the car to DC and spend the night with a friend. Car drove great but I noticed the brakes and front end needs new bushings. Typical e39 stuff. Next morning I change the oil and guess what? Full of fucking sludge and motor honey/lucas.
Pissed off I call him and he says that he didn't know and nothings wrong, just give it a tune up and flush the oil again. I put fresh oil in and noticed a slight tick when cold. Most m60's with bad vanos seals do this so I put it on my list of shit to do. I start on my 1500 mile trip and its going great until we get about 3/4 of the way home. Check engine light and a louder ticking starts to occur. Then a flashing check engine light.
I get the car home safely and pull up the codes:
Bad Crank Sensor
Bad bank 1 Cam sensor
Misfires 1, 2, 3, 4
knock sensors 2,3 triggered 3x
faulty fuel lever sender
faulty body electrical relay
faulty ABS ecu
faulty airbag ecu
faulty auxiliary pump
faulty fuel purge relay
So, car hardly idles anymore and I take a video of it and send it to him .
His response is "what did you do. you must have done something."
I send him all the codes and ask him how could I possibly have done something within 24hrs to cause this. I also send him a copy of al the codes and it shows the last time he reset the codes which was right before he brought the car to us. he replies "all it was was a misfire, so what it needs a tuneup"
So I go to ebay and leave him a bad review and he calls and ask what can he do to make it right. I tell him ho much everything is going to cost and he doesn't reply. instead he goes to ebay and reports the car as not paid for. This instantly removes the negative review I gave him so he's off free. He now doesn't respond to calls and text and ebay says there's nothing they can do.
Now I'm fucked and need to invest more than likely a few grand to repair. I cant get the car registered in my name in it's current condition.
is there anything I can do?
CLIFFS
