Guys... you're getting upset for nothing. A flu strain has a bigger chance of being the next pandemic.

Everything is a calculated risk. While slight chances may exist, it is out there and I am more comfortable in erring on the side of caution.

If I even picked up a sniffle from the plane, it would be a stressful few weeks waiting to figure out am I or am I not infected.

The media does a fine job of scare mongering. While not one to latch to the media tightly in any fashion, I've also learned everything is a calculated risk. This one, I'm not taking.

Besides, I'm looking at an E30 on my drive to joinme back home.

As a healthcare worker who will most likely have to deal with this, I will comment on your comment.

            Couple of things here.

            1) Admin/management for the most part really doesn't give a damn about employees. Therefore their approach is to send you in and then say, "Opps we didn't know, the labs weren't back yet. My bad"

            2) The concern in healthcare today is how does our corporation grow and capture more of the hard to find dollar than it is on safety or patient first. Expand and make a place "pretty" and they will come.

To that end, get rid of long term employees who know medicine because they cost more and hire more noobs (school smart, floor dumb) and pay them less.

            3) Spend more time having department meetings about the new and improved attendance policy. If you call out, punch in early, punch out late, get caught in traffic and receive an "occurrence" count of 1 for each and a total of 6, your job is on the line.

Point is, we are thrown to the wolves. We started, and continue to be there to help those that are sick. You want someone prosecuted for selfish actions, start with bullshit management whose only interest is the dollar. Not you or the staff. Hell man, we can't even get basic equipment (soap) let alone preemptive training. Think about that before you throw a caregiver under the bus.

Did you notice how Obama names a GD LAWYER as his point man on Ebola... not like the US even needs one. But a lawyer??? WTF? Is he gonna sue the virus???

the feds and govt in general have a role, this falls into that role, the fact that they are fumbling this like a baton in a relay race at the special Olympics goes with out saying. Is it willful negligence or hubris or blind faith in the system I dont know, I personally think its a hodge podge of 2 and 3. I dont think they have 2 clues about whats going on or how to really deal with it, and are trying to make it work as the go. I mean for fucks sake the CDC clears a woman with known contact and a fucking fever to get on a god damed airplane... The fact that you have medical "professionals" that are doing stupid shit is only compounding the problem. People that should know better, this virus should not spread easily in a modern western society, with how things are going it might just beat the odds, still highly unlikely, but getting on a plane inside a 21 day observation period after knowingly having contact with someone who was infectious and just died, seems like a no brainier to me to postpone your travel plans a couple of weeks.

I am good, I am not that worried about it just yet. Lets see where we are at in about 6 weeks

Edit: All that said, again where have I instilled any tinfoil hattery or any of the like on this topic. I can come up with lots of never waste a crisis mind exercises that can go with this, but its been a long time since I read outbreak.....

This should really get moved to P&R, I mean, everyone knows that the gobment genetically engineered the disease to be airborne and kill all the black people to thin out the herd for the white patriarchy, right?

I think the problem is that smart people assume everyone else can discern foolishness from rationality and that it will sort itself out, but there are far too many fools for that to work, and we get things like this being believed and said.
