Thinking of new wheels for my 944, need R3V's approval.
I have 8s and 9s on my 911 and a 245 50 16 is way too tall in my opinion. Your main problem is going to be tire selection.
I have 245/45/16 and 225/45/16 and had to run DOT race tires to get those sizes.
Most porsche people pair a 245/45 rear to a 225/50 front and i tried that with bridgestone RE-11 (great tire) but could not get over the fact that the front tires are slightly taller than the rears.
I know porsche did not use a 16x8 et 11 on the front of anything. What are the specs of your cookie cutters now?

You're definitely right about lack of good size options. The cookie cutters have factory recommended sizes on em now. 215/60/15 iirc. I believe they are square 15x7. The car is completely stock and has based on the previous owner I would assume the current tire size is factory.
I am looking for great grip and meaty looking rubber (without going race tires).
15X7 cookies are ET23 just like 911 fuchs in 15X7 or 16X7.
So a 16X8 ET11 will stick out towards the fender about an inch more than your current setup. This is not possible on a 911 , not sure on a 944.
I would find tires you want and can buy right now to fit those wheels before you buy them. 16X9 fuchs are actually worth less than 16X8 right now because of the shitty tire selection. It did not used to be that way.
15 inchers are in the same boat. You could put a grippy 205/55/15 on your cookies and get good performance. I understand the desire to run 16 though...
The cookie cutters (not fuchs) that I have will not accommodate any tires with real grip.
I bought the BBS RS because I decided that I like them, a lot. They are period correct, good looking (in my opinion), and most importantly they will accommodate wide sticky tires.
Oh yea, and because I have always wanted a set ever since I got my first E30 when I was 15 and now I can finally afford them.
