    Does your AC still work?

So apparently this guy [David from Charlotte, NC] was
told that it was going to cost $1400 to fix his air
conditioning. He apparently thought he could do just
as good of a job for a lot cheaper.

Ive seen that pic before. Pretty classic.

My AC blows cool, which is more than enough on an average NH summer day. But if it goes over 90, its pretty ineffective.

My AC doesn't work, and even if it did, I wouldn't use it. Sucks up too much gas, and the freon gives me a headache. I'm pulling the whole system out, anyway.

I was wondering the same thing recently. I don't think many of us have fully functioning A/C. Mine has never worked and I don't think I'll be able to afford to fix it.

Let's drive fast and have fun.

haha well its good to know there are options out there

My AC still blows ice cold but I may take it out for a few reasons. I still have to see how hot it gets here and if its worth it to do the stuff I was gonna do.

Two e30's here, no A/C working in either. That pic is great, the super JDM newb sticker really tops it off.

It decreases your MPG by about 2. On the freeway, you create WAY more mpg loss via air resistance with the windows down than you would with the AC on. Just food for thought.

I'm trying to get mine working with Freeze12 right now. I broke the schrader valve off of my low pressure tube, so I have to replace that soon. There is a guy on eBay that sells all of it. I think his s/n is "FrostyFreeze" or something like that, anyhow his customer service is AMAZING... the best eBay experience I've ever had. He even sent me a few things for free to get my system up and running.

Thought I had mine working well, just needed a drier...but I go to turn it on a couple days ago, barely cooler than what I was getting by strictly using the fan.

Mine's still R12, had it recharged...So, I assume I've got some kind of leak that I wasn't aware about.

                            Oh well.

Yes. You can buy a conversion kit at a advanced auto part store for around 30 dollars that comes with new fittings and r-134a. This is of course assuming that you dont have any leaks and your compressor still works. I asked the service manager at work about the conversion and he said that when the conversion first came along everyone was told that you had to change the lines, o-rings and fittings. Then over the years the list got shorter and shorter until there was a bulletin that said that as long as there were no leaks you didn't have to change anything but the fittings.

Another good point is that if you had r-12 in your car but it was just low, as i did, you need to have it evac'd out of the system first. Do not vent it into the atmosphere or you can be hit with up to 30,000 dollars in fines.

Long story short, i have no problems or leaks using the retrofit kits from any local auto parts stores.
