Nothing against you guys but my guess is you never have actually "built" a motor, or chassis or anything that you can't buy off the shelf. While you may use some off the shelf parts to make these custom setups; it requires far more work, time, skill and energy to make those parts function in your "build". So the term, "rebuilt" doesn't apply, that would assume you were using all factory spec parts as Exodus implied.
It all comes down to time and/or money. In most situations we don't have both, because we have non-car jobs. Then your 'build time' is left to the weekends and can take a long time and no time for fun/family/whatever.
Then there's those who work in the industry and have the tools, experience and can basically do it all in house, totally different story.
This guy summed it up well

Can Am is the zenith of American V8s for me. Don't care if they're faster, or lighter, or turn more rpm elsewhere; they aren't as viscerally aggressive and awe-inspiring as Cam Am.

I, like most, have bought alot of off the shelf stuff. Why reinvent the wheel when its not needed? I have also made alot of one off pieces for various projects which involved the use of a mill, lathe, welder, ETC.
I have also taught myself to port 2 strokes through years of reading and trial/error. This is something not alot of people can do successfully.

Loopiness is fun to listen to, not so fun in a DD. My M42's stock cam's were out of spec for the longest time, sure it sounds a bit neat, but my goodness, to sit in stand still traffic or being at a drive-thru with your car shaking from the idle will drive you nuts on end.Originally posted by TSI♫ Rust flecks are falling on my head...♫OEM+
