I'm not buying in to the whole "climate change" is going to end teh world theory, but there is very strong scientific evidence that we as humans are significantly speeding up the process of this change in climate. The simple fact that we are flooding the earth's atmosphere with greenhouse gasses such as carbon monoxide is proof enough for me. these gasses let UV energy through from the sun, but block heat from escaping. This is simple scientific fact. THere is not much more to it than that. It's true that the earth cycles through it's climate changes, but it is also true that we are changing that cycle.

But as someone said already, we are more likely to bomb the shit out of our planet and go in to nuclear winter than be wiped out by rapid climate change.

I still think its utter garbage and its all politically motivated. Let me give you a couple examples of the lunacy....

      Example 1:
For those with long memories, you might recall Ted Danson (of Cheers fame) making a claim in a 1989 documentary he hosted stating that "if we don't start making changes in our habits today, the oceans of the world as we know it will be destroyed in ten years." This is not a joke...I am not making it up. 18 years ago ol' Ted said the oceans would be destroyed in ten years. I can't believe it happened eight years ago and I totally missed it!!! I must be watching too much MTV.

      Example 2:
Al Gore has been going around campaigning his new movie on various TV shows and he's using a slide show of photos he compiled many years ago which are also used in his new movie. Well, in his new movie he does some commentary and he states that "if we don't start making some changes now, the world as we know it will be radically altered in just ten years." He showed a clip of it on the John Stewart show and while Al and John were chewing the fat, Al states, "I've been trying to get this message out for nearly two decades now." Wait a minute....but you just stated the world was going to end in ten years if we don't start implementing some change. Hmmmm.

Bottom line: I've seen some clips (meaning not the entire thing) and I've been able to spot old Al's inconsistancies with his work and with his preaching. The man is full of shit (even if he did invent the intarnets), therefore, I will not waste a few bucks to go see this rediculous tripe.

so what does it mean when they (refering to the weather/news people) say that this is the lowest amount of ice in 100 years,
in my logic that requires that there was less ice 101 years ago.... we are still here right?
or maybe we just live in a fricken matrix and the world is already flooded, think about that next time you think your driving an e30 lol

"Inconvenient Truth" is not an accurate title. "Convenient Political Scare-Tactic" would be better. This movie is truly made in the spirit of Michael Moore films. Half-truths and important details left out. Most of the "climate experts" in this film are biologists and the like who might be experts at what will happen if the climate were to change a specific way, but they're presented as experts who are qualified to say that climate will change a specific way.

They also tend to leave out little factoids such as the fact that the hole in the ozone layer has shrunk dramatically, far beyond what any scientists can attribute to any change in our emissions. Things like that tend to back up assertions that we are not as big an influence as we like to think we are.

Here are some exerpts from a site I found:

Gore tells us in the film, "Starting in 1970, there was a precipitous drop-off in the amount and extent and thickness of the Arctic ice cap." This is misleading, according to Ball: "The survey that Gore cites was a single transect across one part of the Arctic basin in the month of October during the 1960s when we were in the middle of the cooling period. The 1990 runs were done in the warmer month of September, using a wholly different technology."
Concerning Gore's beliefs about worldwide warming, Morgan points out that, in addition to the cooling in the NW Atlantic, massive areas of cooling are found in the North and South Pacific Ocean; the whole of the Amazon Valley; the north coast of South America and the Caribbean; the eastern Mediterranean, Black Sea, Caucasus and Red Sea; New Zealand and even the Ganges Valley in India. Morgan explains, "Had the IPCC used the standard parameter for climate change (the 30 year average) and used an equal area projection, instead of the Mercator (which doubled the area of warming in Alaska, Siberia and the Antarctic Ocean) warming and cooling would have been almost in balance."

Cliff notes: Gore is cherry-picking information to panic people into following his agenda.

Why does everyone always attack cars and suv's as the cause of global warming? Sure there is more cars on the road than there ever has been. But why does nobody get on containerships bringing us goods like ipods, tvs and so on, I read an article that said one containership uses enough fuel going from china to europe to fuel a passenger car for 150 years. How many containerships are on the ocean right now?

While my envri studies professor was definately one of those the world is going to end types, he did mention geothermal heating whcih sounded pretty badass. Takes the natural heat of the earth below the frostline to heat the house in the winter, and cool it in the summer. I think below the frost line temps hover around 60 degrees. Sounds like a slick system to me.

yes but verry price to set up. Also takes alot of juice to run the pumps what not. an electricty is mostly made from fosil fuels so do the math slightly less emmisions over traditonal methods with a large increas in cost.

There's a book that hasn't been fucked over for political reasons during the last 2000 years.

Now it's being used to sell fear...nothing packs 'em in on Sunday like being afraid. Everyone claims to know what the invisible man wants. But no one can cuz he doesn't give interviews or burning bushes anymore! Fear sells!

I love how conservatives have claimed Christ as their own. Jesus sure acted like a liberal! He was not a separatist, he was not a legalist, fed the poor, was against the quest for monetary wealth and he forgave people that society was ready to kill. Hmmm....

                          Sorry....Back on topic...

So, yeah, we humans have managed to screw the world out of its mind in the short time we've been around. We're going away soon, but the world will be fine without us. It will heal....except for the f'in plastic baggies in all the fields around here! That crap will be around until the supervolcano erupts or the meteor crashes and melts it all....:D

                              That's what I thought!

Every time time I drive past a megachurch with a parking lot full of SUVs and Lexuses, etc., I just shake my head. Then there's my sister, 53, who has become "born-again" and gotten $10K worth of cosmetic surgery because her pastor said "God told him it was OK for her to do it-God wanted her to be happy"

                              WTF?, over. :eeek:

I do what I can with my m10 on E85. I also grow my own fruits and vegetables.

By looking at data from 20 years, we can clearly show a frightening tread in the world, and it's going to mean our downfall if we dont do something about it NOW.
