"The Camry is an appliance, not a car. It attracts folks who have the same regard for driving that they have for washing dishes,
i.e. it's a necessary but somewhat unpleasant chore and they want something to make the task a little easier and insulate them from the process."

I just finished reading both 1776 and John Adams and enjoyed them both.

I recently got into Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast. The last 20 or so episodes are phenomenal, but they are all worth a listen.

I use to read a lot of Fantasy, these were some of my favorites:
The First Law Trilogy - Joe Ambercrombie
The Farseer Trilogy - Robin Hobb
The Malazan Book of the Fallen Series - Steve Erikson
The Swan's War Trilogy - Sean Russell

Last few books I've read include "The Name of the Wind" and "The Wise Man's Fear" which are superb fantasy reads, and the last good sci-fi book is "Aurora." I'm planning to read "Seven Eves" next.

I enjoyed The Name of the Wind, but the 2nd half of the Wise Man's Fear kind of put me off.

Did anybody mention Larry Niven +/- Pournelle for Sci Fi? Or Joe Haldiman?

Mystery: Dick Francis. Never gets old.
Historical fiction: Patrick O'Brien's Aubrey/Maturin series, Bernard Cornwell.
Just about anything by Bill Bryson.

For gearheads "One Good Turn" by Witold Rybczynski. How gears and threads got invented and consistent-ized.

Two of my favorite books that I read last year:
On The Road - Jack Kerouac
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance- Robert Pirsig

Honestly, On The Road may not be for everyone but I imagine anyone here on R3V would enjoy Zen and the Art. It's an awesome story of a father/son motorcycle trip with a side of philosophy. It's more about philosophy than it is about maintenance but, its all relatable having owned an older car like our E30s. I definitely recommend it to everyone here, it's even available in the Apple iBooks store if you want to sample it.

If you're willing to give biographies a shot, "Steve Jobs" by Walter Isaacson is pretty good. Read it over the summer... (Hope i'm spelling the author's name right)

If you're into military sci-fi, I love the Starfist series by Dan Cragg and David Sherman. Both were ex-military. Series is about the same company of Conferation Marines in the 25th century and is about their various battles across space. Awesome series that has about 12 books, and a separate but related series that has another 3. I've read through them all twice.

For mystery/suspense novels, I love any of the books by Robert Crais or Lee Child. Crais' series about private detective Elvis Cole are awesome. Child's series about Jack Reacher are a must read too (you've probably heard of the movie with Tom Cruise)

Right now I'm reading John MacDonald's "Travis McGee" series, another mystery series. His books are about a man who helps people with their problems for a fee. The series started in 60's so it's cool to see how things were a little different back then. His writing was an inspiration for a lot of the current mystery writers today, like Lee Child.

I've read a lot of Kerouac lately. Big Sir or On the Road, specifically.

Also Jack London (Into the Wild, duh), Robert Pirsig (Art of Motorcycle Maintenance), Tolstoy (Family Happiness), Louis L'amour (Education of a Wondering Man), and Thoreau (Walden).
