Kickin.... I know you likely know this already, but there are a couple of other differences between the whites and hawthorn's namely machine stiched lasts on them vs hand stitched on the whites. There are also a couple different grades of hawthorn as well one does have the higher arch in them. Also iirc the whites have a quad lock stiched upper to last vs a tripple lock stitch on some grades of hawthorn
exactly i got the Hi-line ones so from what the guy at whites told me its just missing the special arch, machine stitch, and the weight of leather is one size thinner. my next pair will be whites but for entry level, no point in buying $500 boots if you are not sure if this is the industry i want to be in, so i love forestry so next time its whites!

        LOL

Good shit, look around for a whites dealer as 500 is a bit steep, my local dealer sells my jumpers for a good bit less than that, order form outta state and shipping will be way less than sales tax in CA, and especially since you know what size you need in a white ..

Before you pull the trigger on the Whites look into Nicks, as I have had more than one life time Whites guy that have made the switch and all say they are today what the whites were 25 years ago in terms of quality and that's saying something compared to a pair of Whites

Funny story, a couple weeks ago I spent the night at the hospital and had kicked off my boots about 4am. My moms primary nurse comes in does her thing looks at my boots there on the floor and asked if I was Forest Service or a Wild Land Fire crew. I said no why do you ask, her husband is a Wild Land, so she knows what a pair of whites looks like form across the room and this was Tucson AZ .....

I've always worn Irish-Setters or Chippewas for work and quading but this year was the year of the dress boot for me.

These are timberland earth keeper city's. I've had them for three months now I'm I find it hard to wear anything else, I just wish they were insulated. I also have a pair of perry Ellis 4 in dress boots that were $40 at marshalls. I find myself window shopping for boots like once a week now. This thread won't help

i rounded up it was more like $470ish but still more than i wanted to spend, i wish i could buy some off the shelf or a return order but 12 EEE does not show up often!

Im a forest Service brat, so i am following in the family business. when i got my first pair it felt like a badge of honor, followed by 2 weeks of hell! but it is funny smoke jumpers are like a tell tell sign of walking in the forest all day. (or if your a state agency pretending like you do)

875 on left and the 877 on right, both are a moc toe and pretty much the iconic boot for the past 100 years. I own the 877 and I am 6'6''

Anyone have experience with Wilcox boots?

They look great. I like that they seem relatively low profile. Their website says their waterproofing is "10,000mm" though and I'm not sure that's enough. We get a decent amount of snow here and I'd like something I can daily.

Those are good looking and certainly classic. Thorogood offers a similar look and I would say great price point for those not wanting to drop $300+ dollars on RW.

                        RedWing guy here.

                        I've got 3 pair.

                        2 of these:

The one's pictured are 6 years old, and about to go in for the 3rd overhaul. The other pair is about 3 years old, has been resoled once, and are about to into service.

Newest pair, Steel toe and insulated. I love love love these ones.

The above pair are 3 years old now, used them for 2 and if it weren't for an inaccessible sole coming lose inside I would still be using them. These will be going to the shop with the other pair.

As you can see I'm hard on my boots, and I really don't take proper care of them. Run em' hard and put away wet, but I just can't kill a pair.

Seriously, I love my Redwings. I had terrible ankle pains until I switched, and I'll never go back. Customer for life.

You guys have good luck having boots re-soled?

I did it one time and they never fit quite right afterwards.

I keep them in daily service now, replace them and the old ones are just for back up.

A fully dressed contractor probably rivals a guy in business attire dollar for dollar when we spend $300+ for boots!!
