      Depending on the engine, it can be done differently. Not saying you don't know your shit with motronic/MS/MSS54 and beyond, but MS41 closed loop is determined mostly by coolant temp. (also minimum RPM requirement to enable, different maps for idle or above idle, and variations based on coolant temp at startup.)

        On GM stuff closed loop is unavailable until engine coolant temp is 160* and above IIRC and the O2's are up to operating tem . At least thats where it was for OBD I and II until I stopped keeping up with the new stuff in 09-10

          The manual also says that if you do a lot of stop and go traffic, you want to run the car at 3k rpm highway speeds for 10-15 mins once every other day or so to take care of carbon build up on the cylinders.

          I take it easy on the car in the morning when it's cold. This morning it was so cold outside I was wishing I had a turbo setup

            I always let my car warm up so I dont have to drive in a freezing cold car for 5-10 minutes before the heat blows warm.

              I've always just started up, let it sit for 15-30 seconds and then go, shifting at around 2500-3000 until I'm at operating temperature. Then wind it out.

                      A lot of times, I just don't have a choice.

                      I start the car, scrape the windows and get in. I then patiently wait for the defroster to finish the job so I can see. The manual doesn't want me driving on public roads if I can't see, idle be damned.
