Neighborhood vs Giant white Toter Trailer

This particular bit of news is very local, but the issue it addresses is universal, and perhaps especially relevant to those of us with lives that may involve the ownership of cars and related machines. It’s about a guy in Schaumburg, Illinois, and his 25-foot trailer. Also, how much his neighbors hate his trailer.

Back in August, we told you about a guy with a racing hobby and his white, 25-foot trailer he uses to support that hobby. That trailer was also driving his neighbors batshit, because this guy lives next to people who, somehow, can’t deal with seeing a pretty innocuous white trailer. As a subtle way of letting everyone know he DGs any Fs, the owner turned his mailbox into a tiny replica of the infamous trailer.

Amusing how folks think. One of the reasons I moved out to the residential style areas. I had people call the State Police because I was doing car work at my other house. Cops showed up to ask me if I was running a Russian Chop shop. Was a great laugh. I was peeved, so I imagine he leaves it their just for spite now and the fact is it's free to park it there.

Not able to see his property well from the photo's, but just from a safety stand point (if I were him) I'd pour a pad or gravel on the side of the house and move it there. It's just inviting people vandelizing or breaking in to it.

But then again, I padlock every gate and double lock the garage and have cameras everywhere in my neighborhood to keep sh*t from being stolen.

While I get that the dude has every right to store whatever he wants on his property, but just because he can doesn't mean he should. Clearly some of the comments from the neigh'bs are pure drama, I can understand why the community is ticked.

The mailbox is a nice touch.

Would you rather see a clapped out pos that backfires and stinks when ever it's started? I mean it's clean and from what appears it may be ugly it's not some clapped out winnebago or a semi that idles loudly when he's warming it to use.

My former neighborhood had what we referred to as Westfield trucks, jacked up diesel that would roll coal and would idle for 30 minutes before the owner would head to work. Hearing an old 12V cumming clatter to life at 5:30 am is not a good alarm clock.

Now he could plant some tall abrovities along his driveway to shield one side and be more neighborly.

I would not like to see a clapped out POS, either ;)

Exactly, The trailer is silent and clean, while not being the best thing to look at, it doesn't look like this.

The exterior of my house looked like this for a year while I was renovating. It does not anymore but I can understand if I left it that way but I was doing improvements and had a permit.

Guess I got lucky, my neighborhood is largely populated by racers that own diesel trucks. Most driveways consist of trailers and trucks to tow them, and in the summer nearly every day is filled with the beautiful sounds of engine tuning.

                      Yup.

Yeah, it's clean, but it's 15 feet high and 25 feet long. It's a BIG trailer. It's not the worst thing he could park there, but it's still an eyesore.

If you don't give a shit what your neighborhood looks like, I guess I can understand why you wouldn't care, but I do, and I would care. However, I wouldn't be a drama queen like his neighbors. Of course I probably wouldn't live in a neighborhood like that either.

                        the trailer mailbox is priceless.

the problem really comes down to a couple things. 1)houses are being built so goddamn close together these days so your neighbor is almost like your roommate in that you are forced to see them and their stuff everyday, and 2)driveways and garages are the 'front' of houses so anything parked there is right out in the open. as a person who works in the architecture field, its terrible to see.

His property, his prerogative what to park there, no HOA, No covenants , No local zoning...... Tuff titties neighbors, deal with it.

You dont like it you should not have bought a house in a NON HOA/ NON strict covenant neighborhood simple as that. Fuck off, I dont see why this should even be an issue or have come to the attention of the internet, for that matter...... I would never live in a neighbor hood that has rules about what I can and cant do on MY property. I dont like what some of my neighbors houses look like, or the rotting out lawn mower thats been in the front yard for 3 years, or the kitchen appliances that its parked next too that have been there even longer are there, but its not place to bitch about it them, they are good neighbors they leave us alone we leave them alone and are friendly to each other over the fences when needed.......

A milestone. This may be the first time I have disagreed with your position.

Everyone has a threshold for what they deem acceptable. I'm sure there are things that one of your neighbors could do that would push you to take action. And, I'm sure there is someone, if not more than one person, in the same community that would be totally fine with it and think you are being too rigid.
